It's all over the place. In some areas I am locked at 60 constantly, in others I was hitting no higher than 30fps... Those 30fps areas were always the WvWvW zones. SLI scaling was also non-existent. I would see 50%/50% generally across both cards, so I just disabled SLI and ran on one card.

I don't think these were driver issues though. The game is certainly not demanding graphically, but it's not a light weight like WoW is either. I think there are issues with the game engine causing performance issues.

Scaling seems to be a driver issue...

GW2 is an NVIDIA TWIMTBP title. As such, AMD does not have access to the final gold build, so we will be unable to investigate CrossFire scaling until after the game launches this weekend.

Another update:

We're at +7% CF scaling currently, at 1080/1600p w/ all the bells and whistles. NVIDIA is at -20% across the board.

This title may just not be all that friendly to multi-GPU, but we're continuing to look into it.

Radeon fans might also be pleased to know that 7000 Series is faster at 1080/1600p w/ AA, by about 5-10%.

You want pre-purchase, not pre-order - there is a difference. Pre purchase gets early access, pre order doesn't.

I believe pre-orders only get a 1 day headstart as opposed to 3 days for pre-purchases.

I would love to see a taskmgr from an August event that shows only 2 threads.

I am going through threads on several forums and it seems the August 21st stress test is where people went from 2 threads to using every available thread. In fact every single post about cpu usage I have found dated the 21st or later is showing this.

This is from today. Only shame is they wiped chars:

I am at my office computer right now which is a llano a8-3850. Jumped in to the stress and took a screen shot of the auto detect settings and fps in one of the major cities.

Here is my cpu usage...seems to be using all 4 cores.

"The game is pretty evenly optimized for single GPUs already. Forcing AA is not supported for NV or AMD at this time, but the game does natively support FXAA." http://www.overclock.net/t/1297192/guild-wars-2-crossfire-7970/10#post_18000639

NO. Another AAA game with FXAA and no MSAA?? /facepalm

Since a bunch of you are in the beta, how is the game overall, polished for launch? Thinking of this or Secret World.. (definitely Planet Side 2).

Extremely polished. I would honestly say, had it been any other company it would have been released like a year ago

Its one of the most, if not the most polished and finished MMO at launch I have seen.

Lets just hope that GW2 absolutely crushes WoW and makes it bleed more subs eh?

I used to love WoW (2004-2007) but I *really* hate what they've done with it over the past couple of years. Die WoW, die.

Arena.net is the new Blizzard in terms of sitting on a game until they feel it is ready and not when the accountants think it is. God I miss the old Blizzard, they suck now. I guess it makes sense though considering all the old devs at Blizzard left, many of them to found Arena.net

Everything I have played has been amazing. Of course no one has seen pve passed level 35 but from what I have seen from them so far I trust that it will be fine.

Same boat as you, on and off for the past 6 years or so of my life. GW 1 was phenominal, i played it and WoW and I can honestly say GW made me hate WoW more and more each year... now i'm literally keeping teepee hidden for GW 2

It's not the game it's a DX9 limitation. You can't use deferred shaders and have MSAA.

GW2 doesnt use deferred shading (not 'shaders', but shading, as in lightning), since its possible to force MSAA with Nvidia cards and a specific aa-compatibility flag. Its works fine, except for the selection outlines, they don't get anti-aliased, those are probably rendered in a seperate render-target which that aa-flag skips.

GW2 only having supersampling plus FXAA and not having MSAA is just lazyness of ArenaNet, not hardware limitations.

(ps. Id give you that aa flag, but im on a phone so searching/paste is a PITA)

(pps. In-game Supersampling is awful. Looks like 1.5x OGSSAA. *shudder* )

And for the love of Mike, stop feeding the trolls.

Awwww, c'mon ViRGE, it's such good sport poking at trolls with sticks. Such fun watching their blood pressure skyrocket and watching them become apoplectic trying to defend a company that wants nothing more than to empty their wallets.

Indeed Got to play in the stress test yesterday and was absolutely blown away in that one hour. Huge world which you're rewarded for exploring, crafting that's actually fun, better combat than even in Tera and random people helping each other out

You do not even need to group up for your aoe buffs to work on other players. Also since there is no tagging mobs helping out will give you credit towards your own quests. The cherry on top is each player gets their own loot table so you still get drops for helping out.

It goes to show that if you design a system that rewards helping each other instead of punishing them, then people will be all for it.

Its is Server vs Server vs Server, thats why local server community and buildup is important. No reward in being an ass.

I am going to be making a guild on the Jade Quarry server for no other purpose than to chat and do a couple DEs with other people while leveling, no ambitious plans. Anyone looking for a destination is more than welcome to join. If I am quick enough my character name will be Meeks.

By the way, here are a couple of pictures, showing how awful (and blurry) the ingame FXAA is.

Fullsize pics: No-AA, FXAA, SMAA. (blegh, imgur destroyed the original jpg-quality)

Not only, did ArenaNet go the 'lazy-way', by not supporting MSAA but instead, implementing FXAA. They also did a real shitty job doing so.

Don't get me wrong, I love ArenaNet for their enthusiasm, openness, community-involvement and general awesomeness, and their game is certainly one of the greatest things I've played since many years.
However, its quite apparent that they really don't care about 'niche' things like MSAA, SSAA and FXAA, at least not until now, which is understandable, since they've been working their asses off to get GW2 out of the door, but I still think its a damn shame the graphical-options aren't as polished as the rest of the game.

Just to update the thread with actual data, I'm up to level 14 now and the game's performance is awesome. I have my card only at 1125/1600MHz and I don't think I've dropped below 50FPS. This is with all settings maxed except FXAA @ 2560x1600. Looks like the latest performance graphs are spot on.

Also, thats why every reviewer hates on amd these days. The 7970 was owned by the 670 and 680 so they released an overclocked 'ghz edition' to go against it. what a joke. does nvidia release a 680 ghz edition ? Then when the 660ti comes out they want more performance out of the 7950 so they come out (again) with an overclocked version. what a joke.

You didn't know that the clock speed of the 680 is over 1 ghz already at stock speeds?

In case you didn't realize, the 680 was released with a very high clock speed and is almost near it's maximum capability at stock without resorting to exotic cooling. The 7970, on the other hand, was clocked quite conservatively at stock, hence the reasoning behind the higher clocked versions. I would still argue that the ghz edition 7970 is clocked more conservatively than the stock 680, when using the same cooling methods. Even those 7970 cards have quite a bit more headroom (1125 is common), whereas the 680s are already near their limits.

SMAA injector wins that by miles lol
Thats some type of morphological antialiasing right?
