Latest opteron models and ocing

I'm going to buy an opteron 170/175 sooner or later. The latest available model #'s appear to be CCBWE 0546 XPMW. Anyone know how well these are oc'ing? I'm going to try and hold out until a batch comes out that is getting great results. Thanks for any info.

I have that exact stepping (thanks dave@flickerdown) and have it running dual-prime stable at 2.7GHz at 1.375V. Havent bothered to pump it with more volts to find the top end. I'm happy where I'm at. I wonder if it may be a down-binned FX-60.

Nice! That's about what i'm looking for, something that'll be as good as an FX-60 with some possible headroom for even higher oc's. I wonder how others with that stepping have faired so far.

0546XPMW is one of the most consistent steppings I've seen so far with possible exception of 0530TPMW. However the latest dual-core Opterons clock so well, the once-legendary 0530TPMW doesn't look that great any more. Steppings like 0546MPMW, 0546XPMW, 0547TPMW, 0550UPMW, 0550VPMW and 0551VPMW all have potential to reach 2.8GHz and beyond.

I recently bought the same stepping. Should get it sometime this week. Hopefully it will perform better than my 3500+ venice which tops out at 2640mhz @ 1.55v

i have a 175 with that stepping, but i just finished putting it together a few minutes ago so i haven't been able to OC it. hopefully it turns out as well as what people say here.

I jsut installed an Opteron 170 CCBWE 0546 XPMW and I'm not all that impressed.

I'm running 2.6GHZ 1.392v prime stable ATM. 2.7ghz @ 1.52v gives me about 20 minutes in prime and then fails. Definately wish I hadnt spent $400.

mine is stable at 1.475 at 2700 i got a Opteron 170 with that exact stepping, pretty much all xpmw's can hit 2.7ghz. I can hit 2.8ghz with like 1.52V, most think this voltage is fine, but i prefer to stay below 1.5V

lol matt2, you bought a chip that is rated to run at 2Ghz, u have it 600mhz overclocked. and cause u can't get another 100mhz your dissappointed and regret spending $400.

its like all those people hitting 2.9 Ghz on single core opterons and complaining they can't make it to 3Ghz.

I have an 0550 UPMW Opteron 165 that does 2.7ghz - I haven't truly tested stability yet, but Prime95 ran for about 15min so far stable with temps @ 65 C. I'm still working on it and will make a thread with results/suggestions so far. But I like my cpu so far, thats a 900mhz overclock!

65C is very hot for an AMD chip... I wouldn't run that 24/7 that way.

yeah I've lowered it since then, that was just a quick test to see what it would do. That was @ 1.5v using an Artic Cooler Freezer 64 Pro in an Antec P180. I just need to find the sweet spot yet, takes time

I definately understand where you're coming from makaveli, but you have to understand where I am coming from - I jsut wanna get the most out of my investment!

It's just a little annoying that I can get 2.6 at 1.4v, but I cant even get 2.7 @ 1.54v!

Core 0 is definately my weaker core. Every prime failure I've had has been Core 0. Core 1 just keeps chugging along.

Can I exchange my Core 0?

I just had my 0550 UPMW Opteron 165 running at 2.65Ghz 1.375V with temps of 65 - 70C at load in a 15" Lian-Li case (2x80mm fans), and an Asus A8N-E.

I got a new case for better air flow (Antec P180 actually), a DFI NF4 Ultra-D, and used AS5, now its running at 50 - 55C (stock HSF, might of applied a bit too much AS5).

Not sure if its the better air flow in the case, the AS5, or the Asus reporting higher temperatures? The Asus was reporting PWM MOSFET temperatures of 110 - 125C (does it adjust to compute the junction temperature???)
