I have a couple of months old D630 which I got with a single 1GB memory stick. I decided to add another 1GB to it.
I ordered this module from newegg: GeIL 1GB. I got it today, and installed it. However, as soon as I turned the machine on, I got the first screen with the Dell logo scrambled all over it, and nothing else would happen. Removing the module let's the machine boot and work.
So, I wonder -- is this just a bad module, or is it incompatible with D630?
When I was buying it, there's was only 1 comment that this memory worked fine, and I used GeIL for my desktop, and has been happy with it. Today when writing this message, I looked and someone posted a comment that this module didn't work in Thinkpads X61 and X61s.
This is a PC2-5300 DDR2 667 module with 5-5-5-15 timings. Is this the culprit? Any idea what timings the memory for D630 should be? I looked in the BIOS -- no useful info there (only the installed and available memory).
Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks,
