970's MSRP is already $329, so it looks like that isn't getting a drop. The 980 is dropping $50 from launch price. 980 Ti will cost 30% more than the 980, wonder if it will be able to match 30% more performance?

I think 30% more is exactly what it will offer. With 6GB VRAM instead of 4GB.

Easy choice for me. AMD must have a very compelling price for me to consider their Fury. A watercooled Maxwell 980Ti EVGA at $700-749 with low TDP is very very very tempting. Im glad I didnt buy Titan X

650USD for cut down card is still overpriced.Remember 980TI is not full GM 200.
i am not excited.
When it drops to 500USD like GTX780 after r9 290 lauch i will be excited.

$500? Be prepared to wait for a long long time buddy.

I agree that $649 is a bit overpriced but its much much better than the $799 price wccftech wanted us to believe.
Actually the value seems similar to GTX 780Ti. That card was a full GK110 but it had 4GB GDDR5 and had a MSRP of $699 when it launched.

I can actually get a 980Ti with hybrid water cooling with superior cooling and same performance as TitanX for $749.

Cant wait to get one or two of EVGA Hybrids

I see further price drops for Nvidia's entire lineup when AMD finally gets the ball rolling. Even if most of AMD's cards are rebrands, products with new names and fresh impressions and new prices will have an affect on the market. I see the $980 dropping to $450, the $970 dropping to $300, and the 980 TI dropping to $600 by mid-August.

GM204 is the best engineered chip on 28nm in perf/w and perf/mm2 and nothing is going to change that but it can't stay $100 more expensive than an updated (new) Hawaii card with a slightly improved TDP, noticeably improved thermals, and only 5-7% slower.

And when will that be? AMD is taking all eternity whilst they slowly lose their market share. At this point I don't even know anymore if AMD can get the ball rolling.
Just look how many releases NVIDIA has made in the meantime whilst AMD's current line-up is collecting dust.

I wouldn't be surprised if the launch price is $7-800. I expect it to drop by the end of the summer too. No way I'm spending that much on a single GPU. Although I feel like i need a new one, that's too much considering I'll also be upgrading other parts like my CPU later when skylake is out.

I dont know man.

GTX 980Ti selling for $649 will sell like hotcakes if the rumored price of $850 for Radeon Fury is true. On top of that the Fiji XT may even have a TDP of 350W vs 980Ti`s 235W.

AMD got old rebrands and and a premium expensive card. Nvidia have two value cards (970 and 980Ti) based on a much more efficient architecture and the performance of 980Ti may only be 10% ish below Fury at a more cheaper price. Nvidia have brand recognition and maybe price and architecture in their advantage.

I dont think Nvidia will reduce price at all for 980Ti until probably atleast very late 2015 or early 2016. By then its only months and we have Pascal.
Kepler was different than today`s situation . AMD had Nvidia beat in price/performance. This time they are looking to be very similar in price but efficiency could be an advantage for Nvidia. It depends on how the HBM will play out

If the 390x does end up being $800 I'm probably a buyer for the 980ti as I've always been a price for performance shopper. I don't see amd selling lower this time around as they need to make profit. Then again I also waited a few months before getting my current card. Come to think of it, even $650 is a bit much than what I'm willing to spend for a high end card.

I have to wait until Skylake is available anyway. Which means August. Im not building my new gamer PC until Skylake motherboards and CPUs are ready.
Which means I have to wait but I get to watch both AMD and Nvidia`s cards go at each other before deciding.

I'm in a similar position. My PC is 4-5 years old and I've been wanting to upgrade but I don't play as many PC games as I used to. Although I do play triple A titles.

I'm holding off on upgrading the CPU until skylake which means I'll need a new mobo too and depending on the card I get maybe a new case but I hope not, this case has served me fine. I'd rather upgrade piece by piece now as I can use the same components. If I wait on the GPU until august then I'd be looking at new mobo, new CPU all at once which will be more expensive.

Against the competition, yes.

Which is? You found it hard to believe that that 980Ti would be U$800, don't know why Fiji being U$850 is more believable. Even if it were the case, a cut down Fiji could be the exact same price and performance as a 980Ti and neither of them would be value. Prices are just insane.

This is all quite exciting. I guess I should start benchmarking stuff with my current cards so I can see the difference when the TI's get tossed in.

I was all set to get a new Ti, but after finishing V and currently going through Witcher III, why bother? For some tessellated hair and a slight slight increase in foilage draw distance? There is nothing coming out definite this year AAA wise anyway. No new Fallout, no new Elder Scrolls, no new Mass Effect, Just Cause 3 and the new Deus Ex are up in the air (and I doubt they will be that heavy anyway), so why should I spend anything? New CoD? HA.

I`ve got many demanding games I havent played yet. They are just sitting there in my steam library after me going bonanza on the Steam sales. I havent had time yet.
In addition to maxing the games out, I will also buy 144Hz 1440P display when the time comes, so to be able to enjoy 120FPS+ maxed out graphics , I think I need 980TI SLI.

Expensive hobby but coming from 1080p 60Hz I`m sure it will be pretty awesome.
The sick part is that my previous gaming notebook cost $3500 (Alienware 18) and my next SLI build should be around the same price. So I`m used to paying this much, just that I get much better hardware to play around with now

ummm $50 price drop, I might probably consider the GTX 980.

I don't see how the GTX 980 is appealing at $50 less.

I mean:

GTX 970s cost around 30% less for 10-15% less performance.

The GTX 980 Ti if it debuts at $649 would cost 30% extra for 25-30% more performance.

Given those conditions, a regular 980 would be in a weird spot if it only dropped to $500. That's why I say the 980 should drop to $400 if the $649 price on the Ti is true.
