Launch ver. PS4 Turns on by Itself, Ejects discs and Beeps?

I've run into this issue more recently but it seems like whenever I go to use my Xbox One, my PS4 doesn't like that and becomes a rogue agent. It will just randomly turn itself on from a full off state (happens in standby too), eject whatever disc I last left in there and then beep every minute or so. I can also hear the disc drive either tying to pull the disc back in or continuing to spew it out. Luckily I haven't had one land on the floor... yet.

I read up on this a little bit and the inevitable "your house is haunted" responses were frequent but I'm pretty sure it's not a ghost. I am going to move the console away from the Xbox and see if that at least helps but I wanted to know if it was even possible that something in my Xbox One controller could activate the PS4, without any modifications of course. Both of the controllers are Elite models if that makes any difference. I've also disabled CEC or whatever that HDMI function is on my TV, didn't change anything.

Ideas? Other than perform a seance and purge my house of poltergeists?

Sometimes the HDMI advanced interface causes the PS4 issues when it's connected to the TV where other devices that also use the HDMI cec technology. You know, when you turn on the console the tv automatically comes on and goes to the input that the device is on.

I've had this happen to my PS4 pro too but not the ejecting disk part. I rebooted my TV since it operates on Android and for some reason the PS4 decided to turn on. It happened once or twice and I just power cycled everything.

My old launch ps4 I gave to my brother. It did what you describe a lot for me where it would eject the disk. I changed the hard drive before I gave it away. That seemed to have fixed it. But it may not necessarily be a new hard drive that fixed it, probably a fresh install of the OS(which is required when changing hard drives).

I disabled the CEC per my OP

But anyway I think my console is junk... it's now ejecting discs while I'm using it; keeps ejecting when there's not even a disc in the drive. The console does have quite a few miles on it but not nearly as many as my PS3 slim. **** happens I guess though. It's a launch console but it's been babied so I'm not sure what the actual issue is. A few people have suggested doing a full reinstall of the OS but the 2TB isn't that old but I may end up having to try it.

Alright so my console isn't ejecting discs while in use anymore but I still have to unplug it when I'm not using it. Been looking here and there for possible fixes but nothing really stands out so I'll just use it until I absolutely can't anymore; or maybe when I finally finish God of War--whichever comes first.

Are there any benefits of the slim model over the launch version other than footprint? I'm still on a 55" 1080p TV so I probably wouldn't grab a Pro at the moment.

Its not junk, it just doesn't like the stuff you put in the tray. Have you tried to reset to factory and start over?

If you have done a factory reinstall of the os and wiped the drive it's probably defective somewhere. The PS4 I had was a launch one and was behaving like yours. I gave it to my brother after I changed the hd and reinstalled the os but I don't think he used it enough to see if it still had issues.

The slim model is decent but I don't know of any existing issues with it. Maybe if you have pets and one steps on it while you are gaming it could cause issues due to the smaller thinner size. Do they even have a slim pro version? I got one of the first pro models and it's bigger than the launch regular ps4.

not yet, haven't had a chance to back it up this week. I can just use a regular USB 3.0 external HDD right?

the console has always been on my game shelf like 4ft off of the ground so no pets get even close to it. I really don't want to buy another one this late in the gen but there are, of course, worse tragedies.

To back it up you can use any hard drive even an external one. You really only need to backup your saved games and probably some titles that are taking up a lot of space. If you wanted to play red dead 2 for example and you have a 4k tv I would get the pro version or better yet an Xbox one X as that renders the game at native 4k.

But if you're like me and prefer the PlayStation exclusives more go with a pro model if you absolutely need to replace it. I don't think we will see another PlayStation console this year, may later next year.

Do the backup first then do a factory os install and see how it goes for a few weeks after that. No need to absolutely replace it yet. I remember on my launch PS4 when it spit discs out it was annoying but I'd pop it back in and continue playing either way. If the disc is stuck there is a manual release button you can use I think by sticking something in a small hole near the disc tray if remember correctly. I don't recall if that's still part of the design or not.

There's a little screw on the side if you slide the HDD cover off, but it's not really a screw as much as it is just a manual eject to roll the disk out. Mine wasn't behaving the same way though; it would just keep spitting discs and beeping annoyingly after putting one back in.

I have a LOT of games on the console that I'd prefer to keep, even if the copying took while. I still need to finish God of War, Uncharted Lost Legacy, Watch Dogs 2, and I'd like to not have to reinstall Gran Turismo either. All the rest of them I don't really need because I don't play them anymore.

I don't have a 4K TV so the Pro (or XB1X) is not really a justifiable purchase for me. If I were to buy a replacement, it would likely be a certified pre-owned 500GB just to tie me over; I don't really care about the footprint so much as the reliability.

My PS4 started randomly ejecting discs a few months after I bought it (original version GTAV/Last of Us bundle) The original model has a very sensitive eject button. I tried a few modifications but ultimately had to have Sony replace the PS4 under warranty. The first time it did it was in the middle of the night when I was asleep. The 3 beeps and the sound of the disc ejecting woke me up which freaked me out. Within a few days it started ejecting the disc while I was playing. This prevented me from being able to play anything until it was replaced.

Yup my mine also woke me up in the middle of the night when it was ejecting discs. I thought someone was in the living room too because it turned the TV on and I almost shot at it in that direction.

IMO there's really not any reason to NOT get a PS4 Pro if you are going to buy a new one. It's $100 extra for more horsepower. It's a no brainer IMO.

The beeps are actually pretty loud but I relocated the console since the last time it woke me up and I've removed the discs before shutting it off. I did notice that the little rubber foot right under the eject button does seem like it could trigger it, especially if there's any sort of vibration. If it's not on when I get home tonight I might be on to something. Ironic if the slight vibration of the console itself is causing the eject button to be activated.
