Laundry detergent

I've used Tide for years, and my clothes usually last a long time, contrary to some people telling m that Tide is too strong, or too harsh. I'm at the end of a jug, and open to switching brands if there's a legitimate reason.

My machines are not high efficiency models; I usually use cold water; and I rarely need to wash anything that is delicate/expensive/exotic materials. Just every-day casual clothing.

All I need is soap that gets the job done at a reasonable price, without any evil side effects on my skin/ my shirts/ my planet. And so I turn to ATOT, the greatest repository of knowledge on Earth, for your thoughts and opinions.

..costco has bulk 5 gallon buckets of laundry powder that's about 9 bucks and works well.

This is what I switched to. Been using it for three years or so.

I am not picky about brands, but the detergent has to be free of any fragrance or dyes. I usually go for whatever is on sale that meets my requirements.

Our washing machine requires the use of HE detergents, and we ALWAYS buy the "free" detergents. That doesn't leave us many options, usually Tide HE/Free or All HE/Free, (IMO, All sucks all) and Kirkland HE/Free. I do 99% of the laundry in the house, and for my shopping/washing dollar, the Kirkland brand does as good or better job than the Tide product, and costs MUCH less.

Same here. I've been alergic to the scented stuff since I was little. I also use 1/2 a dryer sheet instead of a full one.

Instead of the dryer sheets, switch to Downy Free. If you're allergic to the fragrences, (our daughter is) you'll appreciate the difference.

I use two dryer sheets with every load. Additionally I just started using liquid fabric softener as well (Downy).

There is a difference between brands and types? I buy whichever color I feel like that day and they all seem to work the same.

I usually buy the generic brand on everything.
Same with detergent but my sister uses Tide.
So whenever I'm out, I use her Tide and I've noticed that my clothes are noticeably cleaner.

I've always had to use purex. It's quite cheap, to be honest, and it's the only one that doesnt make me itch like mad. Recently I tried purex free & clear, and noticed I itch even less... having never tried it before I didnt realize even the standard purex was making me itch a bit... but any version of purex is great for being inexpensive and anti-allergenic.
