Okay, I just got back from Circuit City, where I bought two at this price, and some others at FW have also had luck, so I figure this shouldn't be in Brag & Moan. Here's the deal:

Circuit City Drive Link -- WD1600JBRTL -- $119.99

Manufacturer's $30 Rebate

CC $30 Rebate

Both rebates print out at the time of purchase. Normally, this would bring the price down to about $60, but....

Sam's Club has the drive for $79.84

So, I was able to get them to PM the Sam's Club price. With the rebates, that brings it to about $20! Sweet!

Now, a lot of people will have trouble getting the CSR at the register to PM Sam's, especially if they notice the rebates (my CSR had to call the supervisor), but here's an email that a FW member got from Circuit City in response to the specific question:

After I showed that email to the supervisor, all resistance faded. Presumably since he figured this was coming from corporate. I had been acting like the reason that I wanted the PM was because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of the rebates (told them they could keep the printouts -- what the heck, I knew I could get them online), but the supervisor even suggested that I take the forms at send them in. "You're entitled to them," he said.

So I would suggest walking in with the email printed out (name, etc. changed if you like), along with the Sam's Club printout, and trying it out. Remember that you have to have a local Sam's, and they have to have the drive in stock.

$119.99 - 110%PM = $75.82 + 6% tax = $80.37 - $60 Rebates = $20.37

Not bad for 160GB...

Good luck!

Note that the rebates end 2/19. Might be a good idea to go ahead and get the drives now, then try the PM later (after the 19th) since the rebates won't show up on the CSR's screen after that... might make them less reluctant.

The CC here was out this morning, but got another shipment of 7 drives in this afternoon. When I called to check stock this AM, and asked if the guy thought they would be out of the 7 by the time I got off work, he suggested that I could buy the drives today and pick them up Saturday, which is when their next shipment was arriving.

Usually you just buy the thing, go outside, and then come back in 5 minutes later WITHOUT the rebates. Then the person at the service desk usually doesn't even know about them.

It really depends on the CSR & manager. I already tried showing her my real e-mail, and she said no.
This was back a few months.
I even told her to call HQ, then 5 mins later she came back and said no.

Tried this at a local CC they asked to see my Sams club card (which i am not a member) and told me that they match the net (after rebate price) without a problem which is $69

So a no go here

I really think that the key here is to play it like you don't even want to deal with the rebates. Act ignorant and tell them they can keep the rebate receipts that print out -- you don't even want them etc... Combined with the printed out email with the "Please note that we will meet the lower prices from Sam's Club." highlighted, this approach should have some effect.

Obviously, not every mgr's going to go along, but it's at least partially related to how well you play it....

I was under the impression that CC would invalidate/reduce the amount of any store rebates offered on a product if it was price-matched. ? Still a decent deal at ~$50 for a WD 160GB though, if get the PM + mfg rebate.

I don't believe there's and ad, but you can print out the page from their website showing the price, perhaps that will work as well.

I'm gonna make a go of it this evening, it appears that my CC has them in stock. Just to be clear, I'm under the impression that I should...

1. Bring in the E-Mail
2. Play down the rebates (I don't want the hassle, ect.)

Assuming I can get the PM (I'm pretty confident that I can) Can I still get the rebates?
I'm sure I can get the manufacture's rebate, but can the CC one be found online somewhere if I can't get it in store? (the links in the OP just seem to be gobbly beloved patriot)
Also, what are the chances that I'll be able to get 3 of these..

rebates in 3 different names @ 3 different addresses (my place, my dad's, and my mom's... ) buying 1 on CC and the othe two Cash, three seperate transactions me, my dad, and my brother are going to go to the store together and each buy one.

I hope I get a cool clerk/GM

by the way... what does YMMV mean???

FYI

I decided to call CC and try to PM over the phone. The phone rep being very cooperative checked to see if it qualified. Then informed me that CC doesn't PM Sam's Club. But it didn't hurt to try.
