I promised an update, so here it is:

I went in (alone) and grabbed 3 off the shelf
went to the customer service area to pay
asked politely for a price match
clerk said "hang on a sec..." as she went into the office
she came back and said, "we don't price match with Sam's club..."
I said, "well, actually you do..."
handed her the e-mail and explained it
she gave it to the GM who read it, and said, "this person gave you wrong information, we don't PM Sams because you have to be a member there..

..but, we'll do it for you this time!

"thank you very much", I said (OMFGSCORE!! I thought)

She rang them all up at the Sams club price ($79.84)
She asked me if there were any rebates, and I said I wasn't sure, and played it off like was suggested

Total Price for a cumulative 480GB on recipt: $253.89 (after tax)

Rebates $180 ($60x3) I just have to make 3 different copies of recipt and send them in 3 different names/addresses

GRAND TOTAL (assuming rebates work on all of them...)

$73.89 for nearly HALF A TERABYTE!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks OP, and Good luck to everyone

Umm, isn't your name on the reciept?
This offer is valid for customer name on sales receipt only.

Doesn't CC's rebate policy negate rebate submissions when a PM is involved?

In the past I've had no problem getting rebates after PM, however the policy may have changed.

I haven't looked at the rebate details for this, but usually the mfr. rebate requires an original.

Did this deal early last year 2004, surprised that it is still ongoing. PM with Sams that was next door to a CC. Ended up paying about $25 for a WD 160GB HDD.

Why did you not ring it up in 3 different receipts/transaction #, one for each drive?

The rebates are could be tied up with the transaction#. When they do the rebate the second time/third time they will know that a rebate has been filled with that transaction#, even if a different name/address was submitted. They will see that you bought 3 drives, not one. Good luck in getting the 2nd/3rd rebate from manufactured and CC.

they were already giving me sh!t about the PM... I figured it's better not to push my luck.

a creative use of photoshop on a scanned image of the recipt may do the trick tho (and subsequently constitute fraud...which is why I would never do that... )

its a nogo at the CC in Tustin Ca. They said that they didnt PM Sams club.... I showed them the email and they said that they would PM, but only on the price difference AFTER the rebates, whick means they would ADD money to make it even.

I am calling the District Manager this AM to file a complaint about this a$$.

I hate it when companies wont follow their own policies, lord knows they would be pointing to it over and over if YOU were tring to argue it.

No self-respecting Retail store will pricematch Wholesale. Granted there are on some rare occasion that you get a manager or CSR that doesn't know what the hell they are doing and will do it for you but on the most part they won't do it.

The popular excuse I have recieved when trying to do a like pricematch is the manager asking me to pay him a $35 membership fee in order for him to offer me wholesale price.

Regardless if your a Sam's Club Member or not the majority of the time they won't do it.

I did this yesterday at my local CC. I took the copy of the Sam's Club 160 WD with me and showed it to the clerk. He took it to the manager; manager came back and said they would gladly PM Sam's. I even offered to show him my Sam's card, but he said not necessary. Sam's price was $79.84; CC sold it to me for $75.82. I didn't ask why. As I was leaving the the manager ask if I wanted the rebate forms that came with this product because I really should send them in. I said sure. All in all, a very painless and pleasant experience. Before I read this topic I didn't even know CC pricematched.

I called CC, they said they would not match the deal but would drop the price down to $99 with the $60 rebate = $40. I bought it, will see how it goes.

Just purchased this from CC yesterday $81.89. They gave me no hassle price matching with Sams but said the in store rebate may not go through. $51.89 still isn't bad!

Would it even be worth contacting a General manager about the store not PM?

I was supposed to get a 250gb hard drive a while back, and would have been something like $40 AR, but they wouldn't do a Sam's Club PM.

-One place said they don't PM to Sam's Club
-One place said they don't do that because it comes out to be so cheap, and they lose money... BS... BS... BS
