Question Laying fiber cable underwater?

I have 2 houses on a campsite which i would like to have internet.

1 is recieving a "hotspot" from a nearby cellphone tower, so I have "good" connetion (50mbps, good enough for me).

But, I need to attach the other house to the LAN (and internet), but the house is 1500 ft. away separated by tall trees (that I cannot go over the top), and a huge pond separating them.

I was wonering if there is a type of reinforced (not too expensive) fiber cable capable of being laid (possibly through a conduit) on the bed of the pond/lake, without worry of corosion/signal loss etc...

Not familiar with fiber cables. But don't think Monoprice has what you need.

Googled and the following probably is closer to what's required or something similar.

Corning direct burial fiber, with pulling eyes (so you can pull it across the lake/pond) and other options.

(Direct burial means you don't need conduit if you bury it it deep enough so it's not easily damaged by digging tools)

You better order something longer than necessary to avoid any miscalculation.

Do contact the vendor first for any questions. The cable is custom made and not returnable.

Most of Under water Fiber is used under salt water which is challenge on its own and very expensive.

Monoprice sells consumer Fiber. I do not know if it provides support for under water run, so it will make sense to call and o some first hand research rather then just counting on Dr. Google.

OK. If OP owns the land in the picture, then OP can can bury the fiber cable along the pond/lake, not across it. It definitely will be a lot longer, however.

Call a professional! Seems like all kinds of issues like sight lining, anchoring, land/ water transition, proper termination and reasonably priced fiber switch’s (with gbics or what not).

Just get a router with long antennas and turn it into a repeater. Problem solved cheap and effective. No wires or work needed.

The fiber is a fine idea, but a bit expensive.
Can you run a cable to the edge of the lake from house 1, and then do line-of-sight across the lake with radios?
That would be the cheapest, as a pair of ubiquiti nano M2 can be had for less than $100
I have several pair running and they are really just seamless.

Thought about that too. But from the picture, it could take 2 to 3 hops of POE (300ft x2 or x3) from house 1 to where there is clearance at the bottom of the picture. Seems still there are quite a few high trees near his second house though.

That could be a single run of fiber + power.
Looking at the other end, it would be cake to locate within a copper reach to Line of Sight.

This is tricky to do right. You need armored cable and it also needs to be heavy enough that it will sit at the bottom. Ice is the big problem, As it forms/melts through the seasons it will shift and what not and pull the cable around with it. Ideally, you want to dig a trench and have the cable go underground about 10 feet first and not just drop straight into the lake. That way you are completely below frost line and where the ice forms.

Personally I would just go around the lake, it might be a longer run but it will be simpler and you can get away with just direct burial rated cable. Other option is the point to point radio link as mentioned. That's probably cheapest option. Have fibre and power go up to the lake or a high spot, then beam it to the other side.

Get a tall pole with some point to point radios and you've got a ton of bandwidth with minimal latency.

Even at that, it's fun to research and learn about these unique solves. Makes me want to go buy a huge piece of property and beam internet across a lake to a shack.

I'd love to play with this stuff too just don't have a need. If I buy property though I'll want to look into the possibilities and put up a tower. If I'm close enough to a building that I can get line of sight from my tower I could try to work out something with the owner to get internet there with a dish and point it to my property.

for that range, the nano loco M2 are sufficient. They are less that $50 each. Mine train at 200+ Mbps. I have 3 sets of them running currently.
The OP says big trees on line of sight, so direct radio is out of the question.

Look at this Wireless Bridge they are basically Ubiquiti APs that work very easy and take no time to setup and I have a few that work with miles between them and not exactly line of site due to trees etc and they work extremely reliably and are not too bad on the wallet for around $500.
