Just got out of a meeting with management. Turns out that I (along with 326 people) will be laid off in Jan 1, 2004 because we had the least # of years of state service. This will be my 2nd layoff in a year. In previous budget crises, tax collection depts were left alone, since it'll result in less $ being collected. Now, even tax collection is being cut, which is like shooting off your own foot. Now, morale is pretty nonexistent and everybody feels like they're next.

Good job, Gray Davis! :|

all the laid off people should write the "Governator" and explain the situation.

Cheers,
Aquaman

The thing that upsets me about this is the criteria they used for deciding who will be laid off. Length of time with a company is one of the worst ways to decide. It is wrong for so many reasons. It is typical government though.

They should have use a more meaningful criteria like smallest contribution over the last 6 months or responsiblity to wage analysis. However, this would have taken too much time and required government workers to actually make a decision and get something done. :|

I blame Gray Davis for my ravioli becoming cool prematurely. I barely got it back to the office!

any severance?

No severance.

Gray Davis is not the only figure responsible for this, but he sure could've done something to improve the situation.

I work for FTB as a Compliance Representative.

If just as many people laid blame at the CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURES feet as they do Grey Davis we would all begin to see how California has been really screwed over by it's elected representatives. Arnold is in for an eye opening and painful experiance when he begins to try and work with the circus here in Sacramento.

Sure Grey Davis sucked at the job, but he had lots of help making California into the mess that it is.

edit sp.

Trimming the Government Payroll is a step in the right direction to take care of their dept.

It's a shame they have to get rid of them due to senority rather than worthlessness though

Ahnuld will just terminate them. He has the full support of WingCorp security if he needs hired guns to help un-fvckup the state.

That's the subject of another rant.

With average productivity of 20 cases/month, my average is about 60/month, in addition to helping one of the leads next to me resolve trivial computer issues.

The MAIN reason they do it by time served, is to keep lawsuits off. If you did it my work load someone could argue their cases were harder, etc... and then there would be a pile of lawsuits. BUT if you do it by years of service then there is no case for anything.

I understand that they needed an objective way to layoff people...so now, it's not really worth being underpaid (vs private industry) if the threat of losing your job is present.

I'm a CA state worker in sacto. My head was on the block last spring, but i made it through. i have the 2nd lowest seniority rating in my class in my department in sacramento and i have 5 years. We're heavily general funded and now i have to switch over and find other people who wan our work and will pay. So far so good, ive dodged this current round of layoffs.
