Layoffs headed my way.

Just got the word from upper management. Voluntary severance letters will go out next week.

Depending on how many people bite, there will also be in-voluntary severance letters to follow.

It's times like these I'm glad to be young (29) and single with only a few grand in car debt. Plus I've got almost seven years of service with the company so the package should be sweet.

UPDATE : Received the voluntary letter today. There is no sweetener to this initial offer. Just standard severance package (in my case 28% annual pay).

FINAL UPDATE : I have been surplussed! Getting everything I wanted and then some, in terms of a benefits/severance package. WOOT WOOT!!

I am (was) in IT Network Operations (routers, switches, etc.). I take my second of four CCNP exams next week, and I'm always polishing the resume.

I'm not expecting much more than that. Hopefully the voluntary packages will be sweetened up a bit. But either way I'm happy.

Sometimes I wish our department would have offer voluntary layoffs with severance so it would force me to explore better options. Even though the company lays-off many workers every quarter we have never had anyone downsized. Talking to barely-competent people everyday while being micro-managed can be draining

I'm thinking I'll just stick it out. Worse case I get hit with the involuntary severance which is still the same package. The only downside is that I'll be sitting around waiting for the shoe to drop.

45 minutes till my official meeting. I'm all nerves.

Could go a couple ways, but I'm pretty sure I'll get the severance package. It is possible they will offer a forward moving position that will trump the severance offer.

I think most companies have three letters in their name, unless you look at initials like BN for Barnes and Noble.
