I'm honestly not being sarcastic when I say that I am mildly surprised that so many people are willing to let this guy coast.

If he was having personal issues and explained himself, that would be one thing. But he hasn't done anything, hasn't intimated that he's going to do anything, and hasn't explained why it is that he refuses to do work.

Why are people okay with that? Maybe I'm a freak when I say that a little bit of personal accountability seems reasonable...

However that isn't an excuse, he needs to make the effort. Let the professor know what happened.

It works in some majors, mostly the ones where everyone takes prettymuch the same classes at the same time. Like mine.

At least, that's how it works out here in the real world.
Pfft. What could the OP possible collect from that guy? Some WoW gold? Guy's like that can't really DO anything useful for you and you can't effectively hold anything hold him to anything so his debt to the OP is as collectible as Sudan's debt to the World Bank is.

During the presentation, make sure to add an asterik next to his name. On the next slide, in giant wording, say that the asterik means that this person has done NOTHING for the group or the presentation. He was lazy and didn't hold up to his responsibilities, etc...

Somewhere, someday, that guy will be in a position to repay the favor. Trust me.

This happened in one of my college classes, and if I remember right the guy who didn't do anything ended up skipping class the day the presentation was due anyway and either dropped the class or failed.

What I would do. At this point, stop wasting your time on him. Cut him out of the project and just keep working. If you're lucky, he probably won't even show up for the presentation and later inform the professor about it if he tries to get credit for the work you did. I've had a guy contribute nothing to a project before. The worst thing you can do is to keep relying on him.

INFORM YOUR PROFESSOR ASAP!!!

My girlfriend had a very similar situation in college. Before the presentation, the do-nothing person talked to the prof and said that the group had cut her out, that they weren't allowing her to work blah blah blah because of whatever reason. She contributed nothing, did not do part of the presentation, just totally walked - and the prof ended up giving her an A-. The rest of the group, however, got a B+ and were told that although they had an A project, they got a B+ because they could not work together as a group.

True story. Inform your professor NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW

all he does is play World of Warcraft

I think the problem stems there.

Other than that, inform the professor. No way this guy should get credit for work he never helped with.

I had the same problem my last semester of college. I informed the professor of his crappy performance and sure enough, I passed, he failed and didn't graduate. School is not a free ride

So now I've taken up the powerpoint job, and the other two are ready to pitch in and help on that.

So how should we decide this guys fate? I've known him for years, and all he does is play World of Warcraft.

P.S. He has also made himself inaccesible(sp?). He wont answer his phone or return my messages/e-mails. And he skips class.

Edit: And if you want my feelings on this, I'm ready to strangle him over this. :|

-----, I've been trying to get hold of you, and you just havnt been accessible. We present this on Thursday, and we're the ones doing all the work as of now.

Since theres been no response, I've now taken over doing the powerpoint. You're going to have to seriously pull a rabbit out of the hat if you want a decent grade (if anything) on this project.

Welcome to college
------

Update: Still havnt heard from him. I'm going to drop by his house tomorrow and see if theres a valid explanation to all this. I'll let you know how it goes.

It's called group evaluation where you truthfully check off on how your partners performed on the project. This may be your chance to blackmail.

yeah wait til the group evaluation. In the end he loses, plus you have an entire year. and its college man- every person for themselves, if it takes you 100hours to get a good grade, then do it.
If i learned anything- just worry about yourself and get the work done. If he doesnt pull his weight, he doesnt pull his weight- what goes around comes around..
