Well, the cheapest I found was www.monitordepot.com located N of Toronto.

A guy who resells Samsung LCDs emailed me up the other day aand said he would beat their price by a few bucks, if he could order one in, but looks like it is on backorder. Waiting to hear from the Depot today... I might get lucky and snag one that somebody backs out on, but I doubt it.

You should check out the Samsung 172t - it comes out in a week or two and it is the 171p without the Porsche design, so it's about $150 (USD) less.

No problem. At the US site, however, it's called the 172t-BLACK - they probably note black because there is no picture, so expect it to be a black bezel instead of the silver one like at the hong kong site.

Personally I like the samsungs......... I've got the 171MP and I love it.

You should go to the stores & check out the monitor's with your own eyes. Spec's are just numbers on a paper.......... use your own eyes becasue it they don't like it ............ then that settles that

Cheers,
Aquaman

Grrrrr I'm gonna get you!

I definitely want to go non-MVA though.

I'm using a Samsung 760V right now... The picture is pretty decent, and these are some lower end specs... I'm convinced the Samsung will be nice, I just want a ~25ms panel...

Hi, read this article here:
FFD

Note: through a series of emails I have elicited some information from them:

First email:
"...However we have a new upcoming 18.1" LCD Monitor with TV Tuner under
our Envision Brand which uses FFD technology. This monitor will come out around Sept 2002
timeframe. The model number is EN-8500."
Message 2:
"Dear Chris,

It will be in the $700 range."

From a few other emails, it has become apparent they will be releasing a new line of lcd's also first quarter 2003, and they prolly will have ffd.

hi,
well, mwave changed the delivery date on the samsung 172t-b to the end of september (and maybe further than that, this is just samsung's latest guess) and i cant wait that long. i ended up ordering the 171p instead. it was in stock at ecost.com for $720 (us) which was about $150 cheaper than anywhere else i could find (and actually cheaper than the 172t-b at mwave). it's got the same specs as the 172t-b and the fancy porsche styling. ups scheduled to arrive on the 11th.
anyone waiting for the 172t may want to consider going this way.

Hrm, I'm contemplating the 171P from ecost as well. This Planar CT1904ADU is nice...but I just don't know...something about it. I'm going to get a video card with DVI and I'll see what I decide from there.

Well, I have an ATI AIW 8500DV that should arrive Friday. If this helps with the ghosting in games (my Kyro2 just can't keep up) and I notice no ghosting in DVDs or TV then I'll keep this CT1904Z (ADU). Otherwise, it's going back to Dell and I'm going to wait for the Samsung 172T comes in and I'll get that. The desk I'm moving to isn't very big anyway, so it might be best to get the smaller 172T anyway...we'll see.
