Lcd backlight went out

I have a couple westinghouse 19in widescreen lcds that just got fuzzed out.I bought these from bestbuy last year for like 129 each when they were on sale.I dont have the model number however.
I know i need to replace the backlight, but if you guys could point me in the right direction, i would appreciate it

Check what kind of warranty it has, I'd talk to Westinghouse

if they aren't covered and your eye is on budget, carefully take the monitor apart after unplugging it (watch out for the little circuitboard, it has a high voltage inverter and capacitors that can be energized even when unplugged, but the screen itself is prettymuch safe, as are the wires going to the backlight tube when unplugged). Find the bulb, remove it, and google the numbers on the tube to find a replacement. That will be quite cheap but it's definitely a do it yourself job that may require soldering (some tubes are soldered into the wiring directly).

no thats the model of the lcd, i googled the monitor and replacement backlight and came up with nothing
i suck at the interweb

if you would read my post you would see how to find the model of the CCFL inside it. Jeez!

Replace it with LEDs. Or maybe you can replace it with a home lighting CFL at the back of some kind of reflecto cone?! It would look like a CRT!


In any case, don't break the bulb since it contains mercury.

Are you sure you simply can't RMA the screen? Is the warranty with Westinghouse or Best Buy expired?

Its about 6 months old, i dont have the boxes or original receipt.
Ive never even opened a lcd before so this is all greek to me.

If you don't mind a chance that you might have to through these away, you can try to fix it yourself. first, you need to figure out if the problem is with the inverter, or the CCFL light.

How many CCFL bulbs does a computer LCD monitor usually have? I know my LCD tv has quite a few, and perhaps some computer LCD's have more than 1? Or is it always 1 for 19" - 22"? Anyone know, or have opened and LCD monitor themselves?
