I don't know about you but I'd notice a giant difference in response time and color quality. Also the extra resolution would definitely be noticeable.

I sold my old Samsung 191T to my sister, going from that to my widescreen 20" Belinea 10 20 35w was noticable in response time and colour quality, viewing angles were better too.

Extra resolution is always nice, especially in gaming if your video card can handle the load at that res for demanding games.

I should also point out the finer ,smaller pixels on 20" WS compared to 191T is noticable too.,191T is more grainer, not surprising due to the larger pixels.

Thankyou xtknigh for all your help, and Mem, That helps to know there will be a difference, Do you think the Samsung is the better of the two LCDs?? it cost about $100 more than the Dell. the 214T is more $ than both these ??

For colors and contrast, the Samsung should be superior, but the Dell will have a faster response time.

The UltraSharp 1907FP uses a TN panel. 19" TNs perform great at games but colors will of course leave something to be desired. How it compares to the rest of the TN panels? I'm not sure about that as nobody professional (Tom's/X-Bit/hardware.fr) has reviewed it yet. You should go with a tried-and-true LCD like the Samsung 940BF for gaming. If you must have the absolute fastest, get the FP93GX, but expect some color deficiencies (in comparison to the 940BF).

Hey thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Now I know what to expect, as I mainly got the monitor for its price and swivel/tilt/rotate options. I just love those new dell stands.

One thing is for certain, this Dell 1907FP is better than my viewsonic vx924, especially when viewing darker scenes.

Here's a review of it: http://www.maximumpc.com/2006/07/hp_lp2465.html

Apparently it suffers in games. So I would stick with the Sony SDM-P234 for gaming and movies. The Dell 2407WFP is OK too, but the Sony generally has higher image quality.

I know review on Maximumpc.com, but this review - http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test-hp-lp2465-teil9.html#reaktionsverhalten - is much better for HP LP2465. I am looking for player with this LCD panel.

Why don't you give the BenQ FP241W a try? It should be awesome for gaming. I've heard that the backlight was really uniform too.

Maybe you should wait for the FP241WZ, which is supposed to arrive soon. The Z is supposed to add backlight switching to reduce response time. It has 3 adjustable settings of operation and you can turn it off completely.

I would go with the BenQ because it has more inputs and also less probability of getting the issue MaximumPC experienced.

I got rid of the 2407WFP from the recommendations list. I'm tired of hearing banding/weird workarounds to fix it like soft dithering, poor QC, oversaturation on the A03 revs, and the rest of Dell's shenanigans... The BenQ FP241W is a perfectly suitable replacement with more input options, and better color and response time performance. And it's still available at a great price.

Just wanted to post again, as it's a pain to find my post back on page 20 something.

I'm getting ready to hit the button on an lcd order. Looking for something for a home office pc that will be used to do graphic design, mostly photoshop and quark, generally business logos and ad work.

You previously recommended the Viewsonic vp930b , I'm looking for something $300 or less

Is that still the best in that range or is there anything else out there I should look at?

You could give the Dell 1907FPV a try. (Make sure it's FPV and not FP.)

If that's too steep, try the 1707FPV. Remember, you may be able to find coupons with Dell.

I've redone the recommendation categories and switched around some of the recommendations. The style of each entry was also slightly changed. Let me know if the new style is inconvenient in any way. I appreciate feedback, negative or positive. The prices for all of the LCDs were also updated.

xtknight, I really miss the gaming "better color/decent speed" (something along those lines) category. Is this category still in the list and does it just have a different name or what?

For my next LCD, I'm not so concerned with response time as I am with having the display just look great. After that, then I want to start looking at response time and the rest of the bells and whistles.

Oh...yes that is still there by all means. That's my favorite category. It's now called "Multimedia" (which means higher color accuracy (better for wide variety of multimedia) but not just 100% fast (which is really only needed for gaming)). The NEC 20WMGX2 is the leader of that category for obvious reasons. It provides an awesomely accurate gamma curve and maintains a response time under 10 ms. with little RTC error.

Under each category you'll notice it lists the characteristics. Multimedia includes low response time and good color whereas the gaming category is almost only worried about low response time/input lag.

I'm also looking for a widescreen TFT in the "multimedia" category.
But I wonder why the Samsung 215TW is higher in rank than the Dell2007WFP?
From reviews I read it seems to me the Dell is faster and with better black level?

Secondly, don't you guys think 20" WS is too small compared to the 19" nonWS?
Not in terms of resolution, but in effective screen height.

I notice the Samsung 971p made it onto a coupld of lists, how does it compare with the dell and the viewsonic? It looks like it's sitting under the $300 mark at compusa right now. What order would you put those three screens in. Do you enjoy being asked 500 questions a day?

The Samsung 215TW has better QC (such as backlight uniformity) and color accuracy. It's hard to rank the 2007WFP because they use an S-PVA and an S-IPS in it. The S-PVA would be inferior to the one in the 215TW, but the S-IPS would be equal or better in some cases (except perhaps QC). The 215TW has an excellent black level and contrast.

Not at all. I went from a 19" to a 20" w and I definitely felt like I upgraded. It suits my field of vision better and I didn't lose any desktop real estate vertically. The small dot pitch is awesome.

The Dell 1907FPV and ViewSonic VP930b? The Samsung 971P should be superior to both. The VP930b has the fastest response time of them all, but the 971P would have better contrast. Although the 1907FPV uses the same panel as the 971P, I'd guess the 971P has better QC.

I owned a VP930b (still do) but the backlight bleeding was atrocious. This was before either the Dell 1907FPV or Samsung 971P were released and it was getting amazing reviews everywhere for some reason (likely ViewSonic sent them hand-picked models that didn't have the backlight uniformity problems, because every user reported the X pattern that I also had).

1. Samsung 971P
2. Dell 1907FPV
3. ViewSonic VP930b

Do you enjoy being asked 500 questions a day?

Who doesn't?

You'll probably be happier with the Samsung 205BW.

best i could find here is Viewsonic 20inch VX2025WM for about $450 (Overpriced!!!) and Samsung SyncMaster 940BW for about $300, and for the dell about $340 including S&H. is it worth taking into consideration the Samsung SyncMaster 940BW?? how does it stack-up against the dell E207FPW if it were just a vanilla version of the 2007FPW?

Yeah it should be fine, but you may have to give up AA.

The e207WFP is a TN panel and the 2007WFP is S-PVA/S-IPS. So, it will dither and color quality suffers compared to the 2007WFP. I don't know about the 940BW...I wouldn't want a 19" widescreen. I would get the e207WFP over that.
