Samsung SM245B, The First 24" TN Film Display
April 29th 2007

Originally shown at CEBIT 2007, the Samsung SM245B will be the first 24" TFT display released using TN Film technology. The arrival of TN Film into this sector is bound to prompt a price war from manufacturers and may well see monitors of this size being more affordable and popular. With an expected retail price of around 650 Euros, the 245B offers the usual 1920 x 1200 resolution, along with a 5ms response time, 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness and 160/160 viewing angles. The panel used in the SM245B is the Samsung LTM240CT01 which we have reported about before. The screen also features a VGA and DVI interface (HDCP supported) and ergonomic adjustments for tilt, pivot and height.

HI,
Does anyone know how Viewsonic mark on the box revisions of the monitors? For example how VP930b rev. 3 is marked?

Regards,

Suggestion of the day

Because the thread is now 200+ pages, it is taking longer and longer to load pages.

Have you considered starting the "LCD Buyer's Guide - Part 2 (after May15 2007)" Thread?

You could copy your very informative OP at the start of the new thread and resume discussions from there. It would also require a "Do not post Here" notice in the "Old" thread.

What do you think?

I like the idea, I may not get around to doing anything major until the weekend though. I do agree that the slow-loading is frustrating and I'm always open to suggestions.

(another suggestion of the day)

Also, you can split your long OP into a number of shorter separate posts, for example 4 or 5 or more. You simply have to reserve 4 or 5 or more successive posts by posting the Title of the first one and one word in each post, hitting Reply without delay.

If someone messes up and manages to reply before you have reserved the number of successive posts you want, just erase the title, abandon the thread, and try again.

Once those posts are reserved, you can fill them with sections of the original OP. This has the advantage of making further updating faster.

How would you even guarantee getting a 206BW S panel?

Anyways, yes, I would go with the L204WT. It sounds like you have a better chance at getting a panel you'd like that way.

Exactly, I'd have to open the box (noone will let me as yet), and I'd have to check the service menu... and even then there's no guarantee..

The LG ships with a DVI cable too, as I've found.. which makes the $50 less than the samsung 205bw a bargain.

Related to this, someone on hardforums mentioned that the 205bw & the L204wt can come with a chungwha panel. And, I read that both the 205bw & 206bw can come with same samsung panel.. Maybe the 206bw will ship with the chungwha variant as well, and we'll have another? A, C, & S lottery? ;-)

I was under the impression that C was Chi Mei in the 206BWs, not sure though. I do know the L204WT can come with a Chunghwa.

I went with L204WT.. However, it did not come with a DVI cable, so I exchanged it for a 206bw (which did, thankfully), which was now reduced to $399.

The L204WT came with a CPT (chungwha) panel, and strangely enough, so does the 206bw. Except that it's denoted a 206BW 'W'. guess because chimei got to the 'C' first. I checked the service menu and sure enough, says CPT.. So far I've have not read of anyone receiving an 'S', plus I saw someone mentioned that samsung ditched AUOptronics due to quality control problems. In Australia at least, there seems to be an abundance of C panel 226bw's.

I didn't get to do much of a comparison of the two, because I didn't have a DVI cable when I had the LG, but overall, I would say the 206bw has better contrast. Also, I felt that the fact the samsung has a 3 year zero dead pixel warranty influenced my choice quite a bit.

I don't think it'd really make life any easier for me since I usually make backups by just doing select-all/copying the big OP. But I will be making another thread shortly.

Phew..just finished the thread. There's a TON of info in there. Thank you.

But it's all somewhat gibberish to me..as I'm a simpleton.

My situation is that I currently have a 19" Hyundai L90D+ And of course, I don't know a thing about, but it's not widescreen. I bought it when my roommate found a sale and told me it was a good monitor.

I would like to pick up a second monitor to hook up to my computer, this way I can play games on one and have a movie playing on the other (mostly WoW and netflix) If I don't need any fancy webcams, speakers, usb ports. Just another monitor that does a the job my Hyundai does now and value oriented. It could be another 19" non wide screen, or a 22" Widescreen (I think that's the closest height right? The difference sitting on the desk would bug me) What would you recommend?

Hej XTknight, havent forgot this great forum!
I ended up buying the Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP Superview. The 2709w did have problems with viewing from the sides and now ive took the plunge and gone for a 3008WFP after seeing it with my own eyes, i didnt need to ask anymore here since my breath stopped when i saw this monitor in action. Got 25% off from it via Dell online.

The colors are FAR better then the 2709w, i believe its wide gamut to and its not that over saturared when playing games.
The Brightness seems to be a bit less compared to the 2709w at FULL. But thats to bright anway, and i cant complain about this one, its very bright and i can actually feel the heat coming from the front of the panel (which didnt happen with the 2709w).
It doesnt matter from what angle i look, colors/image keeps being intact, there is some loss, but not that i can care about it.

The monitor casing is made of aluminium and the stand is glass-made. Its faster then the 2709w when playing games, less blur. I didnt notice input lag on the 2709w with BF2 and i dont either with the 3008wfp.
Afterall, i think my 2709w was defective, i believe it are allmost same LCD's but the 2709w had lighting trouble when moving in a game like Crysis which was annoying. Also its colors are better/nicer, but the dark areas are better on the 2709w i think, but the 3008wfp does this very correct too.
Okaj its big, but the lcd upscales the 720p games nicely. In the beginning, 2560x1600 looked blurry, that was thanks to my DVI cable that i used from another monitor. I used the thikker cable coming with the 3008wfp and voila 2560x1600!! This is the monitor of my dreams, big, good colors, no blurry view from angles, and fast. Add to that the extrior is out of this world.
I didnt calibrate anything, only have installed the drivers that came with it.

At factory settings, this lcd was MUCH too bright. It was standing on 75% brightness and 50% Contrast, have reduced the brightness to 27% and its still bright, but i like it.
Only complaint i could have it doesnt have Swedish/Dutch language from within the menu, but i can live with Englisch offcourse
Oh and i didnt find any dead pixels that lighted up another color, otherwise Dell would send a new one anyway they said on telephone.

Ok this was my mini-review, if people are intrested in this lcd and want to know something, ask here ill try to answer. Im NOT a monitor expert like xtknight but i can give my opinion of what i se on this lcd.

Oh and one thing to note about this lcd, i can see there is more 'light' coming from the right-hand side of the LCD panel. On the left there is abit of a blue tinty but its not annyoing for me.
And i dont think this is a defect eitherway? anyway if it is, tell me, i can return it Dell has very good service.
