However the brightness does suffer a bit on this display. Eizo's ColorEdge monitors mostly use this type of panel for their excellent gamut and minimal viewing angle distortion..

This probably should be edited at this point w/ next gen overdrive S-IPS hitting...The NEC w/ AS-IPS is brightest monitor behardware.com ever tested...

IPS technology still can not emit as much light as taken in, like VA can. So in a way you could say it 'wastes' light. But I'll clarify that. That can be taken account for by just putting in a brighter backlight.

": ViewSonic VP930b 1280x1024 (5:4)
Panel: AUO M190EG01 V0 (P-MVA ?-bit)

It's 8 bit.

Fixed, I guess it was an electronics issue with VP930b causing noise although we're still not certain.

21.3": NEC MultiSync LCD2180WG-LED-BK ...

Price: $6749.99 USD

LOL what are they trying to pull... ..If I were Gates rich no monitor is worth 7K.

Hmm yeah, I'm not paying that much 'til OLED or SED.

I can't find this monitor at any LG website... maybe behardware makes the mistake? Thier diction is terrible in the first place I have no trouble believing they got confused.

Looks like I have four options:

- grab the small and glossy NEC LCD20WGX2;
- stick with my CRT and wait for the LG L2000C which might take forever;
- stick with my CRT and wait for a 23" 6 ms widescreen which might take forever as well;
- grab the angle-dependent, color-inferior and possibly even less responsive Samsung 204B.

Decisions, decisions...

NEC blows away every LCD i've tried I gladly sacrifice the glare and height adjustments to have it. But since you are new to this tech coming off a CRT maybe 204B won't be so bad as you have nothing to compare to.

Anyone in here have any recommendations of what I should get? I know I'm looking for DVI at least 19" but I need to cap myself around $350. Basically y'all seem to have a good idea what you're talking about, what's the best thing I can get matching that description?

For what purpose? Dell 1905FP is a great monitor if you don't game. ...for $350 I'd really wait until a dell 2005FPW deal comes along... I got mine for $352.. 19" aint much RE pixel wise.

Hey, I got a question on the new NEC. Is turning on that uh.. thing that enables 1600:1 contrast ratio similar to OCing something? Will it reduce the life of the monitor? And how much of a hit will the LCD take?

I definately need something for gaming. I didn't get a Geforce 7800 to surf the web.

My sugesstion is to email LG and ask them which 19" monitors come with thier new LGP Advanced Super-IPS... I think the L1920PQ may but you can never be sure.

I have emailed NEC Display (US) asking them if/when they plan on releasing 17", 19", 23", or 24" AS-IPS models, who manufactures these panels (is it LG for sure?), and how they measured response time on the MultiSync 20WMGX2. Also I've asked them if the overdrive chip is in the IPS panel itself or separate in the monitor. NEC has been very good on replying in the past so let's hope I'll soon have some more information.

That new NEC 20WMGX sure looks tempting, and with great specs and response time.

Too bad it has a glossy screen. I hate glossy screens :| grrrrr

Maybe another company will come out with something similar without a glossy screen.

if those specs are right it might be a good budget VA screen

Wow, good find. I'm curious if this is an overdrive one or not. It looks like it uses the same panel as ViewSonic VP930b.

Yeah, I think it does. I got this thing yesterday and it does pretty good in games. If I'm playing normally it's fine. In darker scenes if I turn real fast I think I see something like a blur but I'm not sure. If I'm not actively looking for ghosting it looks fine. It's got the same x-shaped backlight bleeding as the viewsonic but the only time it's really noticable is on boot-up.

Yeah, about the response time on darker scenes, that's very characteristic of the VA+overdrive panels.

Yes useless if you have light shining on monitor or window daylight in front of monitor. Need to think about envrioment it goes. My office lamps are beside monitor and behind monitor thus I have no glossy problem. Another problem is no height adjustment for tall men. Eyes should'nt have to look down.

this is the last one please support me(i'll be buying it this week)... I've trimmed it down to Benq FP71G+S and Viewsonic VX724... I'm leaning towards the Viewsonic, but ofcourse I'd be happy to here it from you which one do you prefer..

thanks a lot and more power!!!

Does anyone know the exact panels the HP L1955 and Lenovo L191P have in them? What do you guys think of these two models?

First of all I can definitively confirm that the VP930 has an issue with certain color bands flickering with strange pattern that remind of dithering patterns, but most likely this is a defect of the electronics! I had two monitors exchanged by Viewsonic already, now I am using my third try. The Viewsonic hotline statet that this is a known issue and they offered several other people to exchange the monitor with a VP201.

Hi, I've searched all over the web for an explanation about the weird color problem I've been experiencing lately with my VP930B and this is closest explanation I can find. I've had this LCD for about 4 months until suddenly it started showing weird flickering "lines" on certain color. It appears mostly on the red/orange hue, which I verify by using Paint's color gradient (by choosing the menu Colors->Edit Colors->Define Custom Colors). The problem is less severe in higher refresh rate e.g. 75 Hz than 60 Hz, however it's still very noticeable. I can't take a picture atm since I've already RMAd it and still waiting for a replacement. However, seeing your post I'm worried that the replacement will have this defect too, or worst, it will be ok for a few months, only to show up after the warranty period is over .

Are there any other VP930B owners experiencing this? If this is a known issue, I'm surprised that it does not come up more frequently on the web, it certainly didn't come up when I was researching this LCD .

@tm101, how's your 3rd model going now? Can you still see this flickering in color gradient like those in Paint? FYI, mine is manufactured on Sept 2005 like your 1st and 2nd model. I just hope they get fixed in later ones

I haven't seen it on mine. Mine was made in September 2005.

Thx Compellor, hopefully mine is just a case of bad luck. Too bad if they have to replace it since it has 0 dead pixel and almost no backlight bleeding *sigh*

Some interesting info I got from NEC:

The LCD20WGX2 features the LG.Philips LM201WE2 panel. Interesting because this panel is not the one listed by flatpanels.dk.

Besides, according to the info I gathered, NEC is not going to launch a 23" widescreen monitor within the next 6 months. In other words, nothing will be coming from them based on the new LGP panel in the nearest future.

There is one monitor based on the 23" new S-IPS panel though:

Philips 230WP7NS/00

Heck, if it wasn't silver, I'd grab it

Now, back to my NEC dilemma: 20WGX2 (20" 16:10 6/12 ms) vs. 2090UXi (20" 4:3 8/16 ms)
