I apologize if this has been asked before. I did a search and didn?t find it.

The Sceptre X9g-Naga V ? 19? LCD has caught my eye. The specs appear too good to be true. This monitor is available from NewEgg, Sam?s Club, and CostCo (gotta love the liberal return policy at CostCo and Sam?s) ~ $250.00

Viewing Angle: 170 / 170
Pixel Pitch: 0.264mm
Display Colours: 16.7 million
Contrast Ratio: 800:1
Response time: 8ms
Input: DVI & D-Sub

Is this an 8 bit panel? If these specs are real ? how can you beat this LCD for the price???

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

I think it's only a TN-type 6-bit LCD with vastly overrated specs. (For example, 90 Hz refresh rate.) I don't think there any 8-bit LCDs with that type of response time and price (nor any possible LCD internals).

UPS delivered a mangled box today to my office, I refused the delivery.

Looks like I'm back in the market for an LCD.

LESSONS LEARNED:
For the mangled box, I blame both UPS and NewEgg, since NewEgg shipped the LCD in the naked original ViewSonic box without any additional protection. Or course, with UPS, a kevlar box might be necessary.

SILVER LINING:
Ordered a ViewSonic VP930b from a different vendor and a different shipping company. Hope they do a better packaging and delivery, respectively.

The VP930b looks like the decathalon winner based on the comparison at the website formerly belonging to Dr. Pabst:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/03/27/the_spring_2006_lcd_collection/

Our local video guru xtknight also appears to have given the VP930b his blessing, so ordering seemed the logical thing to do, as Spock would say.

Cheers,
PCM

Received the Viewsonic VP930b today from Zip Zoom Fly (ZZF), delivered by FedEx.

Like NewEgg, ZZF did not use additional packing material, but FedEx did a better job of delivery than UPS, handling the package with sufficient care that the box does not have a single scratch, dent, or discoloration.

Thank you FedEx!

Have the VP930b attached to my laptop here at work and it looks pretty good. The text appears sharp and the colors pleasant. Only 1 dead pixel, about 1.5" from the right border, which I can live with.

The VP930b has 2 VGA and 1 DVI connector, and you toggle the input from the usual front buttons. Extremely convenient.

With height adjustment and 300+ degrees of horizontal swivel along with full all-around screen tilt, the ergonomics on the VP930b are first class.

Look forward to getting the LCD home and hooking it up to my home PC.

Cheers,
PCM

I have rewritten the panel info. Have I missed anything important on any of these?

(Latest version implemented in Guide.)

The diagonal viewing angle is also increased to 178 degrees, from 170 on S-IPS panels. AS-IPS panels very often include much brighter backlights than S-IPS types.
Aside from the NEC one, any 20" products using this panel yet?

I think the LG L2000C does.

Yea, that's what I read, but no one seems to know for sure.

How about the Philips 230WP7NS? The spec sheet says "Widest viewing angle up to 178 degrees", but contrast ratio is only 700:1. Flatpanels.dk only lists it as "23 inch 12 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips) panel.".

Whats the story with the dell 1907? The specs listed are better than the 1905, but is it really an improvement or more of the same?

What are you current thoughts on the Sceptre 37" LCD HDTV?

CostCo has brought it with in range of my budget ($1500 after rebates). Is there another HDTV 1080p (not HDTV ready) set I should consider at or below this price point?

Thanks in advance

The Westinghouse LVM-42w2 retails for ~$2499.

The Sceptre X42-GV Naga retails for $2299 and comes with an ATSC tuner. I will have a review of this set in about a week when mine is delivered.

Might as well wait for the rest of the new Sharp line to come out in the next ~three weeks. The D90Us have DVI-I input, are 1080i, and are pretty highly anticipated. There are 37" and 45" and a 54" is already out I believe. A 65" will follow later in the year.

yes and they will all costs $3000-6000+...no thanks!

If you are purchasing this for more SDTV viewing, this is definitely not the choice. I would recommend a Panny Plasma display instead. HOwever, if your are mainly utilizing this with hi-def sources (720-1080i/1080p) it is a great set (especially for HTPC usage). HOwever, I must also caveat that the calibration settings are somewhat lacking and the industrial design and remote leave a lot to be desired. I heard the rev. 3 Westy 37" are about to be released soon and their prices should be very similar, but they do lack an ATSC tuner. I would just go get it, since Costco has a lifetime return policy for any reason, try it, and if you don't like it, just return it.

I would not recommend the Dell UltraSharp 1907FP in place of the 1905FP. The 1907FP has a TN panel versus the former 1905FP's MVA/PVA panels. Inferior color and viewing angles. But better response time. It likely uses the AUO M190EG02 V0.

I still dont quite get what exactly do they mean by:

We take 50 pictures per test. We then can see a monitor´s ghosting effects, or all the car´s positions in the entire process. The most important image is the one on the left, the better one. It will be the most displayed on the monitor, while the one on the right is in transition.

out of those 50, how many look like the one on the right? and arent they all 'in transition'?

Yeah, it's not the best translation, but I think what they mean is the one on the left is in typical transition speeds and the one on the right is quite uncharacteristicly fast ones. BTW, those images are worst case scenarios. Not everything is going to look that bad in motion.

I'm not sure, but the 1907FP is starting to look like a compelling choice instead of the FP91G+ now.

Comparing the specs of the AUO panels side by side shows they are same except the Dell is brighter, has more contrast, slightly faster response time, and slightly better viewing angles. In light of the 1905fp being discontinued, the 1907fp is definitely looking interesting.

I've played Enemy Territory on a TN panel (just like the FP91G+) and I've had a great experience. If you decide to get it, please let us know how you like it.
