The lower contrast on that Viewsonic VX2235wm seems to indicate it's a TN. Generally they boast 1000:1 or greater but maybe they're just being honest for a change. DVI-D just means a digital connection. DVI-A is analog and both analog and digital are transmitted through DVI-I.
