I have a sony 32" trinitron hd tv 1080i... itsa very nice luigi!!!

lcd's seem highly inconsistent from one part of any given panel to another and they have leakage problems. It seems difficult to find a good one.

..samsung 204t S-PVA...16ms !...dat's all i can see in lcd's.....for now.

Philips 200P7EB 8ms sips around $600-700 aud

just found NEC GX2 widescreen 20" for $900AUD...at www.computershop888.com.au

Well in that case then, the GX2 may be your best choice for reasons I feel the need not to repeat.

Samsung 226BW "C" panel vs. Acer X221WSD

I got the 226BW but it was a "C" panel so I exchanged it at BB and got another "C" panel...other than some backlight bleeding the panel seems fine but it being $70 more than the Acer, I'm wondering if the Acer would end up being similar in PQ/bleeding since I'm not paying for a "real" 226BW...in store they look very similar but you know how inaccurate in-store comparisons can be...

Also, when displaying a photo slide show for example, I notice that the edges of the pictures are not parallel with the edge of the screen...is this expected in LCD panels?

The 226BW's C (Chi Mei I'm guessing) panel is very likely the same one contained in all other Chi Mei-based LCDs such as the Acer AL22*. I'd suggest trying the LG L226WT if possible and this is exactly why I don't recommend the Samsung: the deceptive panel lottery. I don't know why the lines wouldn't be straight on an LCD, though.

So CC has a sale on the LG but it is an L226WTQ...are these inferior? BB's price is $30 higher but I believe they have the L226WT...any difference between the two?

This question was just asked a couple pages back, and I'm not sure.

Well, this just in literally five seconds ago:

According to Gusty987 (thanks), the Q version has significantly more response time control issues.

You may want to put a note to warn people that the 226WTQ is significantly worse than the 226WT. At least in ghosting...

So I will probably note that in the OP.

226bw...what is the best panel and can you ensure you get that particular panel when you are buying a samsung 226bw...?

I read somewhere that the S-type panel for 226bw was the one to get...? just heresay.

Also; regarding the NEC GX2...you will let us know if there is a better lcd in that pricerange for high quality/response i hope

tft's seem to have evolved rapidly..even in the past year.

lol I probably should have added a smiley after that one. I don't know what I was thinking.

No sweat. I knew you were joking.

As for the flickering, if you can't see it against a gray color like that with the brightness settings I had, it's probably not happening on yours. Weird how both of the panels I've gotten so far have had the problem, though. If it's any help, I think the revision number on mine might be 1C. There's a sticker on the back that says "REV." with the numbers 1-5 next to it, and the letters A-H below that, with a black dot next to the 1 and the C. It's definitely not something you'd miss if it were as bad for you as it is on this, heh. My gray desktop actually had a more stable looking image on my CRT, ironically enough.

Its the S version, made from samsung i thing. There are other 2 types, i.e A panel which is from AUO and C panel from Chimei i think.

You want the S version but i dont think theres much of the difference between the panel types.

mmm samsung 215tw is $635 aud at my local store: http://www.gamedude.com.au/prod_show.php?art_no=monSA215tw...l looks like a contender. S-PVA 21" 1680 x 1050 wide screen has a lot of inputs and HDCP.

yes; this one has me motivated to find one instore to have a good look at the picture....if only i could get a nec next to it for a direct visual comparison...

0.27 dot pitch compared with 0.258..need to get a look at it.
http://www.shopferret.com.au/buy/monitors~m-e__p-765560.html

review says it has a crappy stand, excellent picture/response and that the speakers are a waste of time.

i reckon thisis the second best option behind nec...nec has better chassis quality aswell as slightly better picture/response...but samsung also has v. good pic/response, an extra inch of size and 2/3rds the cost of the nec.

226BW "C" panel vs. LG 226WT

The Best Buy near me has nothing but "C" panels...I can get the LG for almost the same price...being a "C" panel does that mean it does not have the same Samsung electronics inside? If I can't get an "S" panel does that make the LG the no-brainer choice?

When is the samsung 245T coming out?

I finally got the money to buy a decent screen, (~1000USD) and since i will using it in the lounge, ill be needing a monitor with great viewing angle, colour, and size.

245T looks nice after watching a clip of it using some sort of overdrive that kills all motion blur. Cant wait for this puppy though. Any other suggestions at a 24inch screen? my selection is pretty limited since im back in NZ. So some of the models especially NEC is not available here.

Hey xtknight and all,

Your lcd buyer's guide has really influenced my buying decision. I've been thinking of buying the samsung 205bw for word processing & browsing mainly, as it's the highest ranked screen, that is affordable or available in Austraila.

However, the 206bw is now available and I'm torn between the two.
They can be bought for about the same price.
I realise the 206bw has a better response & better contrast, but I was interested to know if it used a samsung panel, and would it be quite similar, or better/worse than the 205bw for my needs?

Thanks.
I apologise if similar info has been posted, I attempted to search the thread & no results appeared.

I've heard conflicting info on whether the LG L226WT uses their own panel or if it's chimei like most/all of the other 22" lcds...anyone here know for sure? I recently got a 226BW but it's a "C" panel so I figure if I'm paying a premium for a Samsung that actually has the same panel as cheaper 22" lcds, I might as well pay the same money for the LG if it uses a better panel...

I'm not sure what panel the samsung is using; I can vouch for both types of LG panels. I got the l226WTQ from Circuit City and absolutely hated it (returned it). Ghosting halos for about a half inch around trees in BF2. I now have the L226WT from BBY and have NO ghosting issues in the hour I've played it so far. I just need to calibrate the colors now.

Hi, I'm mainly more of a "competitive" gamer. With this I mean I like to play my games based on performing. My main games are: Warcraft III, StarCraft: Brood Wars and Counter-Strike 1.6. So low ms is pretty important for me.
However, I am now looking at 20inch widescreen LCDs or 19inch regular LCDs. I want to know if I will be having any problems with these games.
My eyes fell on Samsung screens specifically, the 206bw and the 931c.

Which one of these monitors: HP LP1965 or Viewsonic VP930b ?

they are moth p-mva...i thought s-pva's were better pic quality and faster response??

they are priced at 600ish and 700aud respectively in australia..which seems expensive compared to some s-pva models.

the viewsonic seems to have better spec.s...but i have no idea which model has better backlighting.

http://www.nforcershq.com/article4886.html

another alternative is the Philips 190P7EB - cheaper and almost identical spec's
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/review.aspx?CIaRID=4671

lol; the philips has just been discontinued in australia

So what is the difference between a 244T and a 245T? maybe they'll surprise us and give it LED backlighting...but i doubt it is anything more than a cosmetic upgrade of 244T...hopefully there are other improvements

the new dell ultrasharp 24" uses the same samsung s-pva panel as the 244T btw.

Xtknight,
have you had a chance to look at the new HPw2207?? It seems as though many people are now thinking that it's the top 22" out now.

LTM220M2 has 92% color gamut
noted on this page of this thread....http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=2041807&enterthread=y

a samsung "BTNIII" panel with 92% gamut...maybe this is a TN panel to look out for?

The 226bw apparently uses LTM220M1 which has 72% color gamut...

and samsung also sneak in an inferior panel into some 226bw's :AU Optronics TN Film (M220EW01)

HP w22 5ms 22"WS Samsung TN Film (LTM220M1) ...not sure if this is w2207
but the w22 uses samsung panel noted above.

perhaps the hpw2207 is another alternative for those wanting a "samsung" 226bw? rather than a 226bw with an inferior third party panel...?

Dell 2407WFP-HC 6ms S-PVA (LTM240M2)
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=2041807&enterthread=y

Re adamsleath statement above regarding the panel used by the Dell 2407WFP-HC, that info is not currently reported as best I know. The model number quoted is for the current 2407WFP with a color gamut of 72%. This can be verified on the Samsung site: http://www.samsung.com/Products/TFTLCD/Monitor/LTM240M2/LTM240M2.htm

The HC model is the new wide gamut with a 92% color gamut as reported from the user's manual which is already online. Sorry, I don't have the link to it but it is easily accessed thru Dell. That same Samsung site does not currently list a 24" wide gamut SPVA panel.

I usually wouldn't bother to intervene on something as minor as this but I'm very eager to get the latest info on the HC and want to make sure the info floating in the forum is as accurate as possible.

Is anyone familiar with the differences between the LG Electronics L226WTX-BF and the LG Electronics L226WT?

I have searched the Internet and the LG website without finding the "X" model listed. I have read in this thread about the "Q" model, but nothing about the "X" model. I'm getting ready to make a purchase and don't want to make a mistake.

The L226WTX-BF is sold at NE for $20 more than the L226WT at BB. I am wondering if there is an actual difference in performance between the two models that would make the difference worth the extra cost.

thanks for the information; obviously i didnt have the info on the 92% gamut s-pva panel in the dell-hc model.
Perhaps samsung will also use this wide gamut panel in their 245T??: purely speculation....
