Yes i know this topic has been discussed to death. But, for the majority of people who are avid gamers, do you like playing on an LCD or CRT better? I know refresh rates and resolutions are funky on LCD's and not quite as good as a CRT, but i love the picture from an LCD on my games.

if you get a good lcd, then, imo, its better then crt for games and etc. if you dont want to venture into a fortune, then crt is the way to go.

I recently made the move from a 19" CRT to a 17" LCD, and couldn't be happier! Even though my panel is a 16ms, any ghosting and streaking is very hard to notice, even in fast action games like UT2K4.

Not to mention the fact that when I go to LAN's, I don't have to lug an 18.5 kg monster around... I just take my light little LCD (only 4.3 kg's).

The only one thing that took some getting used to, is the fact that LCD's are naturally brighter than CRT's. I've had to turn my brightness almost all the way down, to get a similar brightness level to what my CRT was.

There is nothing a home PC user can do that should require them to use a CRT these days. Simply put, aside from print perfect colors, LCDs can do everything as good or better than a CRT.

In my opinion, of course. If you want to argue, just go buy a CRT, I don't really give a damn.

Deciding factor: cost.
19" flat screen CRT ~$200, an 18"-19" LCD good enough for gaming is approximately 3-4x as much.

I finally went back to CRT because most of what I do is gaming.

There isn't an LCD out there that looks as good as a good CRT for gaming.

No ghosting, no loss in sharpness due to resolution change, contrast and color that can't be beat.

Anyone who says LCD is out of their mind. I am sorry but even the best LCDs cannot compare to midrange CRTs.

My eyes, and the LCD on my desk disagree. The 17" Hitachi on my desk has no ghosting. It beats the 19" viewsonc sitting right next to it in a side by side test.

you've probably only worked w/ old or crappy LCDs

CRT may techinically be better, but w/ the new LCDs it doesn't make a damn bit of difference, and the space you save is such a godsend

For me, cost is the hugest deciding factor, bar none. You have to note, however, that sizes in LCDs are slightly different than sizes in CRTs. A 17" LCD has a bigger viewing area than a 17" CRT. So you may be able to settle for a 17" LCD instead of a 19" CRT. This saves a lot on cost, but LCDs still cost more.

I just went through 3(Yes THREE!) so called Gaming LCDs and I wasnt satisfied with any of them. The Models I tried were:

Samsung 172X 12MS 17"
Samsung 710T 12MS 17"
LG L1720P 16MS 17"

Even though Blurring and Ghosting was alot better than any of the 25MS standard displays, it still hampered "twitch" FPS games(UT2K4, Halo, BF:V etc) and really bothered me for the $500+ price. I decided to go CRT once again and chose a 22" NEC FE2111SB Aperature Grille and nothing compaires.

I have to say stick with the CRTs just for the price/performance.

Size and weight are a nonissue for me considering my monitor is up against a wall anyway. What would a few inches of free space behind and LCD do for me really?

This is my biggest unsolved question that tortures me for a long time.
I think it's purely subjective.
Ghosting and blurring may be annoying and visible to one but not to someone else.
Also keep in mind that just because a monitor is 12ms that doesn't nessecerily mean that it will have better results than a 16ms one.
This round with the 12ms LCDs or the Dell2001fp I was pretty close at getting one.
But I will wait a bit longer. LCD tech isn't what I want just yet, though it's pretty close to my needs.
If I was to buy one right now I would go with CRT.
I believe in a year or so from now, we will start to see great LCDs.
*notice my objection is only for gaming and generally 3d applications, for anything else undoubtely LCD is superior

A friend of mine is all about LCD, he finally played UT2K4 with my 19" trinitron and was blown away with the color and texture appearance. CRT all the way for gaming. An LCD would be nice if space was a premium, but i'll make the space for a good ole CRT

All of you CRT guys, never take a second look at LCDs. Ever. LCDs are as inferior as multipoint fuel injection.

can't beat a CRT....Price/performance/perfection

Although LCD's are making headway, they can't touch the best of the CRT's

i am just curious, and i know you dont give a damn; i already bought an AWESOME CRT and i love every penny i spent on it. so here is my question : are those samsung panel based ones are SOOOO much better than the dell 1800PFs in terms of richness and lushness of color? IIRC, this was supposed to be one of better monitors out there and it was nothing but unimpressive. while i agree its ok and good for basic desktop work, but colors colors colors.... and i dont even play games. i watch anime, and for that the dell wasnt exactly what i would call a close match to my NF diamondtron. seriously, no pun intended. only asking cuz i havnt seen newer and nicer samsung panels (the last one i saw was sometime last year at yongsan.. buncha 19''+ ones there... didnt really care to look up the model names, but if you know what yongsan stands for you know i couldnt have missed too much )
