I got my Acer AL2216W monitor for about a month now. Had the computer with a a dell 1907 for about 2 years now. When i upgraded to the acer i only swapped over the power cable and monitor, so i used the same DVI cable.

Generally i leave the computer on a good 18 hours of the day. I just turn off the monitor and go about my day. I never use sleep, hibernate or standby. But up untill 3-4 days ago, i haven't been able to get it to turn on w/o restarting the entire computer. When i turn on the monitor, it boots up and says no signal. I hit the mouse and keyboard along with anything i can think of. The computer makes noises, like if i wanted to make it play music ( have a media player shortcut on keyboard). The computer on is but the monitor wants to sleep in....

Since then i've installed the acer driver from the site, adjusted my ati Controls and etc. disable all hiberbation, sleep and all standby settings again ( even tho it was never on). nothing new was installed program wise except for a couple of windows updates.

I thought it was related to the cable so i swapped DVI cables. I'm about to look to upgrade ATI driver if they have. Does it sound like its related more to one side?? I look at it being 30% on video 30% on windows and 40% on the monitor.. I plan on upgrading video cards shortly so if i can eliminate windows and the monitor itself i can easily get a video card now and fix my problem

my specs on the computer if the matters is.

x300 Ati video with a 2.8ghz dual core, 3ghz, 500gb maxtor HD. wireless keyboard. mx518 mouse. running on XP PRO.

Try running a different video card and see if you get the same problem. Sounds like a video card problem to me, but I'm not really sure.

Try splashing some water on its face??

Seriously, I was getting this before when I had some hibernation setting turned on. I set it so it doesn't go into hibernate mode at all and the HDD doesn't turn off...and only turns off the monitor.

If you've already turned everything off then I can only think of the Windows updates that were done. Try uninstalling those and seeing if the problem persists.

I get the same problem, except I let mine go to sleep and every now and then it just won't wake up, so I have to restart.

Does it help if you use the Monitor OSD and switch input mode to VGA and back to DVI? I have the same monitor on another computer and don't have that issue...

You may want to look into your BIOS for any DPMS settings (Display Power Management System) and change the settings.

You're overworking the poor monitor; it needs more rest.

Try letting it sleep more; as monitors age, like us humans, they tend to need more resting.

Frequent napping helps as well in between sessions.

/not a serious post
Glad to hear you got it figured out

I'm having a similar problem so I'm not going to start a new thread. I have an X850XT and everything was working fine until I installed KAV. KAV gave me too much problems so I unistalled it. I'm using McAfee now. I uninstalled my older Radeon drivers and installed the Omega ones, but that didn't solve it. I'm using the latest Catalysts now and that doesn't solve it either. When the computer is in POST, I can turn the monitor on and off, but when Windows XP is loading, if I turn it off, and back on, it doesn't get a video signal. It does the same when I'm in Windows, the monitor doesn't get a signal. Anyone know how to solve this? Thanks.

My monitor is an Optiquest Q20wb DVI.
