Is 75Hz the recommended setting for that LCD? I know that mine makes things blurrish, especially fonts, when running at 75Hz instead of 60 Hz.

Besides that, LCDs dont flicker like CRTs, even at 60Hz.

Yup, and the monitor's DSP always downsamples 75 Hz to ~60 Hz anyway, which is what the crystals run at (at least that's what I've heard, but TFT central isn't always 100% reliable). To be honest though, tricking Windows and LCD into 75 Hz makes my mouse considerably smoother and I believe ViewSonic's monitors don't have the problem described above so that's all the better for me. It even seems to have less blur, so I assume it has a LUT for 75 Hz.

It's not the refresh rate that's hurting your eyes with the LCD (LCD's dont flicker). It could very well be the brightness, however, as LCD's operate at much higher brightness levels than CRT's do. Try lowering the brightness...

i've looked at 60hz, i never saw a visual difference but i'll switch back to it.
thanks i do have a home theater image setup thing, i have already used the one that comes with the lcd and nvidia's control panel and for them its optimal
but i'll give it all a try

it has autoadjust and comes one automatically sometimes so hope i dont have to keep resetting it
so now i set it to 10 bright and 100 contrast like someone mentioned...looks horrid, shades of grey in my wallpaper are now pitch black

what do you guys recommend my following settings to be?, too many for me and i cant find my home theater setup cd
course
fine
sharpness
H + V positions
color control
color tone+control+gamma -cool/warm/normal or custom

how do you know they actually grey? you could have just been running such high brightness that it skewed the colors?

try to keep your contrast somewhere nice, then adjust teh brightness til you like it

when i play games i put brightness to like 50, i keep the 10~15 in desktop as i hurt my eyes otherwise

uhm..cuz things that are suppose to be white are now greyish lol

but so far i'm still using brightness 10 contrast 100 as someone mentioned..whites are greyish but i'll probably have to wait till this weekend to see if it helps, thats the only time i ever spend more than 2 hours straight on here. but its a $300 19 inch so not like i can expect alot as far as visual quality

im the one that suggested it LOL,

you could also try like 90 contrast 25 brightness? you know .. just leave contrast higher than 75 and adjust the brightness to suit

how big is the lcd and how long have you had it?

when i first got my 2405, i had headaches for about a week or so. i'm pretty certain it was because my eyes/brain weren't used to the screen size yet so my eyes kept physically scanning the desktop. after awhile, i got used to the size and haven't had problems since.

I used to get headach and seasick until I found a LCD fast enough.. motion blur will do that if youre sensitive.. Cant wait for SED since LCD sucks for anything that moves...

Because your eyes are probably about 1 foot away from the screen on a computer?

Don't tell me, it is a Dell. I sold my 2405 because I had sore eyes the entire time I owned it. If so it is probably the extreme brightness.

Dell makes these brighter and brighter every release like we need a brighter screen. Even with brightness/backlight on zero this thing killed my eyes.

had it almost a year, its a samsung 19inch 8ms, made for gaming, supposedly its actually rated at 4ms cuz it increases the voltage to individual pixels when they change so they change faster, i dunno but i dont really see much motion blur so i'm sure thats not the problem and i sit about 2 1/2 feet away, i'm sure its likely the brightness, it does seem easier on my eyes now that i changed it, just wish i thought about it sooner.
but why would lcd's have frequency options if they dont flicker?

it seems we're in the same boat

I've had several laptops and 3 LCDs
last one is an Iiyama AX3817UT (30ms response time)

never had a single problem and felt perfectly comfortable, even after long sessions

then few days ago I got a Samsung 740B (is that the same you got??)....and things changed
Afetr just 5 minutes my eyes were burning, I felt a strong headache and sense of nausea

I'm wondering if it depends on ****ing Samsung or just I wasn't used to such a fast response time...or something else

anyway I cancelled my order and I'm waiting for a refund
I'll probably get a Dell (1704FP) or Iiyama

You might want to check the panel tech in that Dell, Samsung makes a lot of the Dell panels. I got rid of my beautiful 24" Dell (based on Samsung panel) because it was killing my eyes.

I'm going probably to help you all guys with headaches over LCD using.
I've been suffering from this problem for ages.
But now finally after many different experiments ive made
I've found the perfect solution (at least it works for me)
The new type of lcds that comes with the new laptops.
They called in various names Like UltraBright, UltraSharp etc
each company has its own name.
But its all same technology.
those screen dramatically reduce Eye strain.
But as I discovered its not enough.
If you really want to be able to sit 10 hours with no effect what so ever.
Get your self a screen filter as well.
So im using a laptop with this new technology and also a think plastic screen filter
that comes from 3M.
Its actually a privacy filter that narrows that angles of viewing but its totally works
as a screen filter as well.
Since ive started using it. I can play FPS games for long time with no effect at all.

I used to play quake for 10 min and get tired.

I hope it helps you people
