Hey guys, I have a strange display problem that prevents me from seeing anything on my screen once I get to the Windows logon screen. I can see the bootup process just fine. Here's the whole story.
I'm using a Sharp Aquos 32" (native resolution is 1920 x 1080; that is the resolution that I used in NVIDIA's Control Panel without issue for *more than a year,* and on my TV it registers as 1080i) with a GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB card. I almost never have any issues with my display.
Then, yesterday someone logged off my username on Vista (64 Bit Home Premium) and logged on as another user. Upon logging off as that user, my screen instantly was horribly distorted. That is to say, the resolution was totally wrong. So, I loaded up NVIDIA Control Panel to change the resolution back. But here's the thing: after running 1920 x 1080 for more than a year, now NVIDIA Control Panel tells me that 1920 x 1080 is an "improper resolution" for my monitor, and it will only run in crappy resolutions like 1680 x 1050. I set the resolution in the Control Panel to this, but the refresh rate keeps flipping between 30 Hz and 60 Hz. The image stabilized briefly (stops jumping up and down), then I restarted my computer.
The startup process displayed as normal (no jumping, everything booting up was clearly readable), but then when I got to the Vista logon screen, I received a popup message on my TV (NOT from the computer) telling me the TV was receiving an incompatible signal; of course, this makes no sense given that I had just seen everything on my screen just fine before turning off the computer. Accordingly, now I can't log onto my computer at all. If I go into Safe Mode, I can't even load the NVIDIA Control Panel. I think the issue is that NVIDIA is screwing up Vista's refresh rate, and my computer is telling the monitor two different things. I'm stuck unable to see a thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am 100% unable to even log onto Windows right now, and I need to use my desktop again soon.
Should I start by uninstalling my NVIDIA drivers and then trying to see if I can get into Windows, since I suspect a conflict between refresh rate settings in NVIDIA and Vista?
