Hiya,

I want a 19" LCD for gaming. I also want to choose one from Best Buy
because my daughter works there and I can use her discount.

It really sucks that they dont carry Viewsonic as I had my heart set on one.

Anybody care to look at what they offer and give me some
suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Peace
Rich

Depending on your prefernces regarding colors

6-bit: the Samsung 960BF looks good since it has all the adjustments (needed for TN) and is very fast (TN)

8-bit: Can't really recommend any of the 8-bit panels at the BB prices. A Dell 1905 is close to 300 shipped .... and it about as good as any of the 8-bit panels (at best buy) for gaming performance

Keeir, Thanks for the reply. I had the Samsung 960BF in mind as well.
The problem is, the discount I receive is not a set amount, but goes by how
much the store paid.. so I have no idea what it is going to cost untill I get there.
Also the online store does not always compare to what the store actually has
so I am going to go check out the store as soon as my wife gets home. ( about
30 minutes ) so if anyone has any input it would be appreciated.

Peace
Rich

Okay I am back from Best Buy and I did come home with a monitor.

I ended up getting a Samsung SyncMaster 930b.

I havent had much time to play around with it yet.. but it sure seems nice so far.
San Andreas looks great on it.. but I still need to test it with a fast frame per
second game.

Regular price was $411.99 with my discount I paid 352.86.

Anyone have any experaince with this monitor?
If for some reason I screwed up I have 14 days to return it, for any reason.
I have not found any dead pixals at all.

This is my first LCD and I am impressed so far with the image quality.

Peace

Since the 930B is a TN panel, I would make sure you check out the viewing angles of the monitor.

TN panels are infamous for darkening and/or having color overlays as the viewer moves out of the sweet spot of the monitor.

Edit: To a certain effect you can't get away from the effect no matter the LCD. This is especially true with the best gamer panels.

you probably could have bought a better monitor at a lower price from newegg or something.

I hadn't heard of the 960BF before; it appears to be the equivalent of the Viewsonic VX924. The 930B is close to being the equivalent of the very popular Hyundai L90D+.

Since you bought it at a local store, I'd take the time at the start to look for any dead or stuck pixels. This is most easily done by creating some single color backgrounds to view, including black and white backgrounds.

I bought the 930B in the spring and was my first LCD too. Going from a CRT to the 930B I have been impressed. I do not have any problems with gaming and the picture is pretty good. The only complaint I have about it is the inherent brightness to blacks. I have not been able to do a comparison with other LCD monitors but I would expect this to improve with more expensive models. It appears that there is also a $20 mail in rebate on the monitor on the Best Buy website.

I have the 930B. Make sure to use the DVI connection. I play games like Doom 3, HL2 and FEAR and think it looks great. I had a 25ms LCD before and this is a vast improvement. I think you will be very happy with it.
