What are the specs I need to be concerned about when purchasing an LCD monitor? This looked like a fairly good deal but not sure.

If you are going to be doing gaming, the monitor should have a response time of 16ms or less or else you may get ghosting. Also, your monitor should have dvi input and your graphics card also have dvi output. DVI will give you a clearer, more ghost free image.

This LCD is nice (your looking at), its missing a DVI connection (its only average at gaming - nothing special, brite picture although). Myself, I will never again get a LCD without DVI.

I think Toms Hardware did a review on some LCD's a short time ago, he found that 16ms is not always better than 25ms, like most ratings in the computer industry, quality of the product affects the bottom line.

Good budget DVI gaming LCD

Thats a great low cost 19" LCD with DVI that games well, comes with a DVI too...

I work for a company that sells computer products (NOT NEWEGG), so we see many products and hear feed back. I myself have 7 different LCD's now (home network), this LCD looks/works as good and better than mine Samsung 191T-B.

Note I should add is that the LCD in the link above supports 1280x1024@75 DVI

Resolutions 1280 x 1024 @85Hz (Analog), 1280 x 1024 @75Hz (DVI-D)

1280 x 1024 @60Hz
640 x 350 @70Hz, 640 x 400 @70Hz, 720 x 400 @70/85Hz, 640 x 480 @60/72/75/85Hz, 800 x 600 @56/60/72/75/85Hz, 1024 x 768 @60/70/75/85Hz, 1280 x 1024 @60/75/85Hz"

Thanks for the responses. Another question... a lot of monitors have an 8 dead pixel return policy. Are dead pixels obvious to the viewer? I'm really not sure if I would notice a dead pixel.

Can you see/notice dead pixels? Some, some not. For myself, I hate the stuck on pixels. The only LCDs I have noticed dead pixels on are my Samasungs, although any LCD could/can have dead pixels.

That AOC LM914 19" LCD looks interesting, have you played many games on it? It is rated at 25ms, but I have seen others that do very well on games that are also 25 ms rated. Any AOC users that have played 1942, Warcraft, CS, etc.? without issues?

Thanks.

Don't think this will work for many games:

Gamer?s Point Of View

FPS gaming revealed extremely evident ghosting and prolonged gaming that way will certainly induce motion sickness and headaches. You can bet race/flight/space simulators are also out of the equation. Surprisingly, we found the Philips 180P2M LCD (which has ?slower? response time) pretty comfortable for FPS gaming with only a minor hint of ghosting. This AOC monitor is definitely not fit for gamers of this genre, but it should still suffice for role-playing and real-time-strategy games (except when you are scrolling through the maps).

I play warcraft fine on it, even unreal and others.

If you play framerate based games and you must get an LCD for some reason then its response time is really critical - keep it as low as possible.

From what I have read, DVI is not necessarily needed. Many monitors work just as well in analog mode. Your video card might affect the quality too.

If you check neweggs customer reviews, you will see some well known name brand, analog only monitors that have many 5 star ratings from people who bought it.

I even read once in a while people who post that their analog connection is better than when they hook up their DVI connection.

All games play great on my 2 year old KDS Rad5 LCD monitor. Only I wish I had gotten a larger screen back then.

I used to have a 17" LCD that did not have DVI inputs. I used it for a short time before upgrading to an 18" LCD from Dell. What a difference!

First thing first, the text is now crystal clear. There isn't any more ghost images (as in images that are shifted over slightly, even on a static screen). Also, the convergence looking problem went away. It's a big difference.

If you're buying a LCD, make sure it has DVI inputs!

I have a VP171B and I game all the time. It has 16 ms response time and a DVI input. I highly recommend it.

VP171B is a killer LCD, if I would get any LCD, rest assure it would be that one.

They call me the CRT Nazi. Make your own conclusions.
