My puter's DVD player... I dunno if it's Progressive. It was a $60 LG model that burns and reads both DVDs and CDs, both R and RW and DL for DVDs. Even does DVD RAM. Awesome drive.

Whatever display you're on, DVDs are still only 480i material.

i thought they would put it out as "p" if the dvd player supported it...???

DVD players can output 480p material, but the DVDs aren't acutally 480p afaik. They have progressive "flags" that are used, but I haven't really looked too much into the inner workings of what's going on.

EDIT: random google results

That's kind of my attitude. I didn't read it all either.

Several guys who have written something that long have said that DVDs are 480i. I believe them.

Well, with the way my pay schedule is, I think I'll just do this...

Save up for the monitor first. My current config will run everything fine. Next, I'll save up to buy either an Abit SLI board w/GeForce 7800GTX or an ATi Crossfire Ready mobo w/an Crossfire Edition X850XT PE. Then I will save up and purchase the 2nd. graphics card to complete either the SLI or Crossfire solution.

Yikes. This is gonna be expensive... lollerz - But, I should be set for years to come. I hope. LOL Until I get the bug to upgrade again... Bad CybrSlydr..... haha

I think using 2 vid cards is burning money that can go elsewhere. Especially with the performance of the GF7 cards, ATI is still an unknown. If you're planning on dropping some coin, keep in mind there are huge issues with DRM looking in the very near future. The 24 inch Dell is quite sweet, tho. Make sure you look for coupons.

TBH, I'm an eBay whore. Specifically this auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Hm...

lol As for coupons... They're never aound when I could use them probably. lollerz Besides, if I can get a better deal on eBay, I will. Especially since the 3yr. Warranty follows the monitor, not me (or so I've read).

This is why I'm gonna get the monitor first - it's the most expensive single-purchase, plus with the R520s coming out soon and CrossFire, they might be a better deal than the SLI 7800s. Not to mention if they're not quite what I'm hoping, that's an extra month-ish for the SLI mobos and 7800s to come down in price.

Using coupons, people have got that monitor straight from Dell, around $700 total. Dell seems to float the price of this thing up and down randomly. Good luck though!
My picks would be:
Asus SLI-Premium (Asus is good stuff, it's quieter, and Nvidia's Ntune software support)
Single BFG 7800GTXOC (no problems with my BFG, good tech support, lifetime warranty)
Price: About $700. And that's assuming you have a 939 chip, et cetera.

Coupons seem more hit-or-miss than finding deals on eBay. It would be outstanding to get that monster monitor for only $700. Wow.

Yes, I do have a 939 chip, the 64 3500+. Right now the 7800GTX and SLI mobo are the combo of choice. However, the monitor will be my first purchase. Can't wait. By then, hopefully there'll be some thorough testing of the Crossfire combos, so I can continue saivng for them.

Were I to make the switch to SLI, I'd have an Abit AV8 K8T800 Deluxe and an ATi x800 256 Pro lying around doing nothing. Know of any good places aside from eBay to unload them? When I get this monitor, I'd have a 19" M991 CRT collecing dust as well.

you will always have the occassional a$$, and read the banned / troll info at the beginning. other than that, setup your heatware and all is good. personally, for most computer equipment i would rather buy on a computer forum like anandtech or 2cpu than ebay, here the people actually know what the stuff does.

Well, I did it. lol

I purchased a 2405FPW on Monday. Got it through eBay - with shipping, it was $934.** Yeah, not a great deal, but less than if I'd gone with Dell or damn close. It'll be here Friday. I can't wait! Thanks all for the great input.
