exactly... that's why LCDs are so unattractive to me

Nebor.. you don't know how much you are missing out by using an LCD

An LCD isn't for everyone. Eventually the technology will develop more, the prices will come down, and they will become a viable option for more people.

i am soooo glad i went with CRTs instead of LCDs, as i was in a same dilemma about a month ago. every time i watch something i cant help noticing how much richer and beautiful colors look on NF diamondtron compared to dell LCDs (1800FP) at school computer clusters, not to mention the money saved allows me spend more on my already decent audio subsystem. in fact i dont even play 3d games so ghosting doesnt mean a thing to me.. if you like your LCD i am happy for ya, but different strokes for different folks.

Most gamers don't game for 8 hours straight, so a CRT is fine

Ever heard of a lan party? I didn't think so. The rescaling issuse is vastilly over-rated and that goes with the ghosting issuse as well. If your LCD ghosts, you've got a crappy one. I have a LCD and I have CRTs, considering how much I am on the computer I am never going back to CRTs. The only logical complaint agaisnt CRTs is the lack of color depth and the Mylar surface. Yes, I know my is pretty strong for what it is but it doesn't beat glass I do beileve Iiayama does have Glass LCDs... As for the color issuse, this is infact true. LCD haven't been able to produce as vivid colors as CRTs, but when the advent of OLEDs we will soon see full color flat panel displays.

On top of that, I find the image quality superior, and it's nice to have the extra desk space.

Also, typically at places like Best Buy, they have like 20 monitors hooked up to a single computer, so the signal quality is terrible. Don't make a judgement based on something you saw at Best Buy. Small computer shops are usually a much better bet for that kind of stuff.

i am really looking forward to it.

what does IQ mean to you? i am having serious trouble telling if text needs to get any sharper than what i have now, not that i could care less about it. however, it must be noted difference in color is something i can immediately tell weithout thinking twice about it. then again it must be just me, i am more of a video oriented user. this is something i been asking in numerous LCD vs CRT threads, i even pmed some of the LCD advocates never to get any kind of reply. the conclusion i got is this isnt something clear cut as a64 being better than P4; rather, more subjective like tube amps vs SS amps or CD vs vinyl. no clear winner here, it really comes down to a preference and priorities in what they look for in a monitor.

Biggest advantage for LCD's are:

power & heat.......less of both!

When not is use, turn off the juice!

Don`t forget perfect geometry,I agree it`s down to personal preference,I`m happy with my 19" LCD and I game everyday, main resolutions I use are 1280x1024 or 1280x960 with a small border at top and bottom or 1024x768.

I do like the crispness detail you get with LCD (in DVI mode) in gaming,I don`t miss my 19" CRT anymore .

crt = better color reproduction/contrast for gaming/video/graphics (requires high refresh to be decent)
lcd = less eyestrain, crisper text, less fading with age. but expensive, and response times are slow(quoted ms are misleading best case scenarios*white to black transitions, color takes 2-3x more) color reproduciton capabilities are reduced, esp darker shades. so dark games maybe harder to play.

I've got a Dell 18" on DVI connection, definately one of the better lcd's on the market. Looks great, but I just bought a 17" Samsung 793MB for my wife and I can't believe how incredible it looks. Best picture I've ever seen from a CRT. The colors and contrast can't be beat. I'm seriously thinking of switching back.

I have a Samsung 151V 15" LCD and have noticed no real "ghosting" and as long as VSynch is enabled everything's fine, I have it hooked up dual w/17" CRT gateway monitor I got for a spare. The reason I had this laying around is that my old MB, the ECS K7AMA would not display POST on the LCD at all, just had a set of vertical white bars. CRT displayed POST fine. Now I have an MSI KN72 Delta-L and the LCD shows POST with no problems. Overall I like the 15" LCD better as the image is much more clear, easier to stare at for long periods of time, space saving, low power and looks good to boot! The CRT is a cheaper option but if you can stand it, save up for a nice LCD that'll last ya for some years.
