basically every LCD has one or two, unless you are extremely lucky. Out of 100, I would say 90.

Its just like a black dot or some dot that wont change colors. Looks like a spec of dust stuck to your screen.

It is not that noticeable as long as you don't run on black screen. Mine has one at the right end corner. Kind of like it. It works like fingerprint, and will be hard for you to find two LCDs with exact same type of deadpixels at exact same locations. So, if someone switched yours, you will notice it.

I have a Dell 2000fp LCD, it came with 3 always on pixels. If I leave an all white screen up for 10 minutes they go off. Dell's policy is 6 or more pixels to replace your LCD.

I have an Eizo L565, that came with one dead pixel (always white). You do not see that in games, videos or applications at all. Just when the system boots up and the screen is black (and if you know where it is). If we would still be running DOS, I assume it would be much more visible .

Anyway, Eizo refused to take the LCD back, because their return policy is (this is a standard, but not mandatory): 2 or more dead pixel (black or white) or 3 or more dead subpixels (permanent blue, red or green).

Not a big problem for me, I would NEVER go back to CRT. Never.

Cheers

Mine is L565 too, no dead pixel, perfect.
I cannot accept a $700 17" LCD with any dead pixel.
If I'm buying a $400 17" LCD, I can accept some dead pixels.

It all depends on where the pixel is and what color it is. My laptop had a dead pixel that was colored light blue. It also happened to be 1/4 inch off center, so it was VERY noticable.

Interesting thing, though, in about a year, it managed to fix itself (well not completely on its own, I had been told, correctly, that if you lightly massage the area around the dead pixel, you may manage to get it to properly connect to the power circuitry. Spent a few weeks periodically massaging it and it finally stayed connected one time, been fine ever since.) But take what my experience with a grain of salt, as I knew my pixel was getting power (otherwise it would have been black), so this method may only work in that type of situation.

Also note, that most manufacturers have guidelines for returning a LCD as defective depending on number and location of dead pixels. Some will accept returns if a dead pixel is within 4 inches of center. Others require 2 or more dead pixels to be within 2 inches of each other. And they might have a limit of say 4 to 5 across the entire screen.

Find out what their policy is. If they have a good policy, then don't be afraid to buy the LCD.

Bought 1 Philips 150S3 for company recently, no dead pixel.
Bought 3 NEC 1550M for company sometime ago, just one of them has one white pixel.
