LCD's with LED backlight

Guys i have heard that LCD with LED blacklight have great colors and crystal clear images & are great for watching movies & playing games & it also consumes much less power than normal LCD's. I have read about it but it is too good to be true. So i want to ask you experts are they really that good?

& when will this thing come in mainstrem LCD's?

You can buy an LED lit LCD from Apple right now...a 24" model. THere's also LCD TV's from Samsung with LED backlighting.

LEDs put out more light per unit of energy they use when compared to CCFLs and especially regular tungsten bulbs, so there will be a significant reduction in energy consumption when they are used instead of CCFLs.

The issue with them is that when they emit white light, they become very hot and can burn out unless cooled. The closest color light they can emit is a bluish tint, though there may be workarounds with filters or the manufacturing process/LED design improved to become capable of white light. Assuming monitors are capable of extracting white light from the LED, the picture would be better because the light source produces more light within the same power envelope.

Some LCD's can be found with LED backlighting for about $600. I would project about 2 years before they are "mainstream" (in the sub $300 category and plentiful). We also may skip LED backlighting and just do Organic LED's instead.

Dell will have a LED-backlit 24" this year for $359. The problem is that there's no performance advantage except lower power consumption for most users.

The LED backlights are actually RGB, so no white issue.

Just read a review of the Viewsonic LED screen, was pretty bad for gaming. I'll try to track it down again.

So right now LCD with LED tech is not all good it will take some time to mature, just like SSD.

OLED = well i have heard about it but the one thing that could kill this tech is that somewhere i have read that OLED has a lifetime of just 10000 hours which is two less even for normal user.
