I've been progressing from crutches to canes and today was the first day I walked without canes! Then, I had an appointment with my oncologist and the meds I've been taking are less effective than they were. My tumor is slowly getting larger again. It's a rollercoaster.

I went to go put a thumbs-up on your post, but then read the second half. Dang man! Congrats on the cane, but bummer on the growth! Hope you're keeping in good spirits! If not, you can always browse ATOT & then feel better about yourself

When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes
William Shakespeare

When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
(Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth) sings hymns at heaven’s gate;
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

EE Cummings

what if a much of a which of a wind
gives the truth to summer's lie;
bloodies with dizzying leaves the sun
and yanks immortal stars awry?
Blow king to beggar and queen to seem
(blow friend to fiend: blow space to time)
when skies are hanged and oceans drowned,
the single secret will still be man

what if a keen of a lean wind flays
screaming hills with sleet and snow:
strangles valleys by ropes of thing
and stifles forests in white ago?
Blow hope to terror;blow seeing to blind
(blow pity to envy and soul to mind)
whose hearts are mountains, roots are trees,
it's they shall cry hello to the spring

what if a dawn of a doom of a dream
bites this universe in two,
peels forever out of his grave
and sprinkles nowhere with me and you?
Blow soon to never and never to twice
(blow life to isn't: blow death to was)
all nothing's only our hugest home;
the most who die,the more we live

Long term update: In the last three weeks I've gone from dream retirement plans to strongly considering assisted care. Good news is they've decided aches and pains now fall under cancer palliative cancer and have no problems getting the good drugs. I'm pretty pissed off about missing retirement.
Free advice, you can make all the best plans wake up and see it disappear. If you can do so, retire now!

Oh, man. I'm with Boomer, no words. Magnus, you're one of the good guys,. part of the glue of OT, our lovely little oddball community from back when, just to BE on the net, you needed something approximating a triple digit IQ. No longer, that.

Things change. They change whether we want them to or not. They change wholesale or they change one unwelcome piece after another. They change relentlessly. Entropy rules.

In the end, all you really have is your family and the fellow humans, the friends you have made, virtual or IRL, you have been privileged to walk this earth with.

I'll leave you with this, Magnus:

"In difficult times carry something beautiful in your heart."

Fucking Cancer. Argh,
Sorry MagnusTheBrewer.

I hope you dont need to, but, if you do go to assisted care, i hope you find a good place where you can engage in fun hobbies and have a nice quality of life.

Magnus, like many others, I'm just at a loss for words. I hope you are able to always find joy in life and be surrounded by the best family and friends. Hopefully you might be able to spend or travel a little and cross a few things off the retirement plans/goals/bucket lists?

Greetings,
This is Ute, MagnusTheBrewer's wife. Just wanted you to know Magnus passed peacefully at home on Saturday, 10/10/2020
at 12:28pm. He was finally given the "good" drugs and was no longer in pain. Happily he didn't have to go into hospital/hospice care. Hug your loved ones. F#@k cancer!
