If I had the 5.4 3v, a plug replacement at 100k miles (change interval) could cost around a thousand bucks. Two-piece, easily broken plugs that corrode into the cylinder heads ftw... thanks Ford!

most expensive repair was 650 for an engine swap after the original engine died in my car because of a lack of coolant, engine included.

After that I started doing pretty much everything myself, spent 750 on new shockséstruts topo plates on my car after that, I guess that would be my most expensive one time thing...nto sure how much swapping the DOHC head on comes out to, probably less than the suspension though.

The mechatronics unit (valve body) in my DSG trans went. $4500 Luckily VWOA paid for it, eventually there was a recall. Sucked being one of the early people to recognize the problem and try and get them to fix it.

Only had issues when hot and of course whenever I'd bring it in they would shut it off before test driving it... No problem here! I hate stealerships.

Have never had any bill anywhere near over $500 in my life.
Have changed a clutch and tramission on my 1996 Saturn and it cost around 350 in parts and I did it myself. That was one of the worst in the last several years.

I also bought a Saturn wagon that needed a subframe and had deployed airbags.

It was on the road safetied and out the door for about 825 including the purchase price of the car.

Dropped $800 today to replace all 4 tires on my car. My car still had factory tires after exactly 7 years (and 30K miles). I was basically running on slicks.

After 220k, my largest repair has been a rear axle, bearing, and seal, $700. I let it go to long and the bearing galled the axle. Didn't have time to fix it myself.

Years ago I bought an AWD audi - guy had just paid something like 2500 bucks for a clutch job a few months prior... Rear main seal was leaking when i bought it.

Took it apart - idiots put the wrong $10 seal on the crank when they did the clutch - so I redid the "$2500" job. Took me a whole bloody weekend IIRC. (Of course I discovered the wrong seal once I took it out).

Most I've paid is maybe $300, forget on what now. I usually do my own work... figure I can take the day off work, do the car work, and come out ahead.

Body shops have got me for some big cash, but it was always insured, so I didn't have to pay.
