I bought the chaintech from zipzoomfly last week. Unlocked 16/5 for 139.99. This one looks to have a better stock cooler than the chaintech model.

I tried to do the softmod with a 9800se, and now i wish i never bought the card. it's my own fault for buying it, but the card is very unstable. spend the money for a real one.

You should never buy these cards counting on the unlock/OC. It should just be considered a bonus if it does work. $130 isn't a bad price for this card and it would be a great upgrade for someone currently using a 9600/5700 card. I'm with you on just buying the version of the card that comes with all the pipelines opened if you really want that level of performance. The Radeon X800/X850 XL line provides amazing bang for the buck right now and that's guaranteed performance

LOL, not only would I want to unlock some pipes, but I am going to do a bios flash too say that Rivatuner is uneccessary if the pipes work! If not, I will just OC as best it can and keep it around for a while and sell it off at school

I believe the normal price for this card was $145 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). As far as spending the money for a real one, some of us are on a budget. I know $50 bucks more doesn't sound like much to some, but for others its a world of diffference. Also some of us just like to squeeze every ounce of potential out of our cheap hardware. I unlocked my chaintech 6800le from 8 to 16 pipes and from 4 to 5 vertex shaders. For $140 shipped, that ain't bad. So far i've been tweaking it and o/c'ed up to 350core 750mem. Now is faster than a stock 6800. Money well spent in my book.

*edit* the more I think about it, the closer I think it will be... but if you can unlock even one quad to bring you up to 12 pipes, yes, no doubt about it

I unlocked mine to 12x6. Also overclocked it to 330/760.
Getting over double then what i got before on 3dmark03. I had a radeon 9600xt 128mb before and got around 4000, now i get above 8000

Another good thing about this leadtek is the heatsink and fan. The heatsink seems pretty solid and covers the memory modules as well. As far as heat goes even OC'd it still is pretty cool.

I was able to get 12 pipes and 5 vertex shaders working.
When I tried 16 pipes and 6 shaders I got tons of artifacts.
I believe most people will be able to unlock at least 4 pipes and 1 shader.

dammit too bad the pci-e version dosent unlock. EVGA gave me a 6800 for no charge after 2 spontanous RMAs that just got worse with my 6600gt.
