(Be gentle, I've never done this before)
Not sure how hot this is, but it's cheaper than I could find it on pricewatch... $166 with $6 shipping... Seems like a decent deal to me :-/

The review on Toms hardware made this out to be a very attractive card - pretty overclockable, cheaper than the hercules, and strongly built - however, I think $166 for it is a bit much. I have seen GeForce 3 Ti 200 cards for around $109, and although I'm willing to pay more for a quality card, I don't think spending over $140-150 is a good idea. Especially when one takes into account that we're a couple of months away from spring, when new cards will most likely be unveiled.

I'm probably going to grab one, and NewEgg certainly has strong reviews on ResellerRatings, but I'll wait a bit and hope for a good deal either on an older GeForce 3 (who still outperform the GeForce 3 Ti 200) or on a name-brand GeForce 3 Ti, 200 or 500. At this point I'm considering Asus, Hercules, Gainward, Gigabyte, and the front runner is LeadTek. Not to be confused with Visiontek, who really doesn't seem very interesting.

Please keep in mind this it the "T" version of the card with only TV-out. Earlier versions were "TDH" for Tv-Out, DVI-Out and Hardware monitoring. The TDH was the one tested on Tom's Hardware. I think the "T" comes with slower ram and no ram-sinks.

So what is that TD version they have listed now at newegg for $189?. That was not there a couple of days ago. I wonder how comparible it is the the TDH ti200.

Sigmatic!!!,

"I have seen GeForce 3 Ti 200 cards for around $109"

Where did you find this? I missed out on the BB black friday deal, but would be happy to pay $109!

Please share?

THanks!

He was mistaken. Nobody has ever had GF3 ti200's for $109. He is probably thinking of a Geforce2 Ti200. Those are about $109.

The Radeon 7500 and 8500 are both better values than the nvidia cards, unless your primary concern is max FPS and nothing else. The 7500 compares with the GF2 cards, and the 8500 compares with the GF3 cards. Not only does the 8500 produce a better quality video signal and image quality, it IS faster than the GF3 TI500. Something to think about.

Yeah, my bad, I screwed that one up. This is the one I saw...

<< AccessMicro has the MSI MS-8836 Geforce2 Ti 64MB DDR VIVO TV-out and Video Input retail box for only $109. >>

if you're interested, the link is here.

Otherwise, I'm very sorry!

Someone told me they got an Xtasy Ti 200 for $99.99 recently though, which confused me even more. It was most likely a GeForce 2 as well and they just got it wrong. I wish they had named it differently, this is pretty confusing! :|

I'm still not sure if I wanna spend over $150 for one of these cards. They're really cool and seem plenty overclockable, but I think I'll wait around for a better deal.

Sszero, I dunno about that. I doubt thats true, but I have not seen benchmarks recently. Anyways, drivers for radeon cards really suck. Which is one main reason nobody buys them...

While it is true that the initial drivers were not the best, the current drivers work fine and are no more buggy than drivers from Nvidia, which STILL have bugs with some games even after countless revisions and version updates. Just because Nvidia deems it necessary to release a new set of drivers as often as twice per month does not mean their driver is better...it just means they couldn't get it right the first time around, or the second time around, or the third time, etc. A driver should not have to be updated unless the reason is to support new features that were not present during the initial release...and you're not going to tell me that nvidia needs to update feature sets twice per month.

As for nobody buying ATI products...HMM...let's sit and think about that one...they've been in business for what...more than 10 years. And they stay in business by having nobody buy their products? Makes sense. I guess that is why ATI had to satisfy the demand for OEM Radeon 8500s by flashing OEM bios onto retail cards in addition to manufacturing both versions. Yup...clearly a dead market for ATI.

You take it too personally.... buy which ever one you want, there are good aspects of both cards and it'd be hard to say which is better. They are better in different places. It's just a video card. Sheesh!

True, the ultimate decision is up to the consumer...but a lot of people base decisions on what other people say, so might as well make sure people are saying factual things. Where isn't the radeon better than the GF3? It does all the GF3 does, and with better quality and in some cases greater speed and most notably at a fraction of the price. Radeons do have some issues with the driver stability and some issues with games, but then again, I've never owned a PC component that didn't have some kind of quirk.

One thing I noticed about the Leadtek is the software bundle is pretty attractive. It comes with DroneZ and Gunlock....

I'll speak for myself when saying that software bundles never influence my purchase decision, unless it is the only thing left...I.E. both cards are the same kind, same price, one comes with software and one does not. I'll take the one with software. I still play unreal tournament, quake 3 and RTCW. I have all the games I like.

Some of you guys seem like you know video cards. What would you suggest for a guy with $70 budgeted for a new one?

Well, if you could swing another $40, go for a Radeon 7500. If you are stuck at $70, check out a GeForce 2 GTS.

Any particular brand? I asked my friend and he said I should go for a 64mb GeForce 2 ti200.
