Owners/Users,

If you have only one TV outlet on the wall, and want to see TV simultaneously on TV and TV Tuner (PC), what would you need?

A TV signal/cable splitter?

Any difference between pricey ones and cheap ones?

A splitter will do, and honestly, the difference between the price of an expensive splitter and a cheap on is only a few bucks, so I would just jump the the more expensive one

The only fiber optic cable comming into my room is that of my cable modem. I want to hook up a TV tuner to my computer also but is it possible to buy a splitter for my "cable" and plug one end of the splitter into my cable modem and the other into a TV tuner card? I have Comcast.net service and Comcast is also a cable TV provider. Will this work/is it legal?

It's not fiber optic cable

Aren't those coaxial cables and not optical? I always thought it worked by having a current go through the middle wire and a current going the other direction through the shell ... not optics

As everyone else stated, it's just your standard coax. cable not a fiber optic cord. Additionally, yes, you can get yourself a splitter do give yourself a cable signal to your TV tuner card and to your TV... yes, this means you'll have 2 splitters on your 1 cable signal (1st split [from the wall] --> 2nd split & cable modem ... 2nd split [from the original splitter] --> TV & TV tuner card). Now I'm not sure how much signal degregation you'll encounter, but you'll have cable TV on both your tuner card and TV.

Why would it be illegal? You pay for the service right?

I'm 90% convinced I want to buy it now.

Go for it. I got my Leadtek tuner about a month ago and it works great. I use mine to capture shows as uncompressed AVI and then convert to an SVCD format that my standalone DVD player can read.

If you are paying for the service, it is up to you how you want to use it. I work at Comcast, we audit people who are getting service and not paying for it, and usually for a lot of things we can cut it at the tap. As far as signal degradation, if you get a decent 3 or 4 way splitter, its not much different from what is being done at the tap anyways.
