So, you are saying that if you aren't watching TV or recording or listening to FM or recording, you're best off shutting this thing down (the Off button in the software or remote).

No, it requires more than simply turning it off.
You need to right click on the Winfast Wizard icon located in your system tray, then left click "Unload".
Simply turning it off does not remove it from using your system resources. You must Unload it.

If you use the program Girder, you can create a command using the remote to open the TV/PVR program .exe file directly using the power button on the remote. Using this set up, there is no longer a need to have the winfast launcher in the system tray.

For more information on Girder go to Girder website

To get rid of the Winfast tray and set up a command using Girder (once youve set it up) go see my reply here: Girder thread

Got mine today and set it up.

I have to say that the picture is MUCH sharper than my ATI All-in-onder Rage 128

I miss the Guide plus TV channel listings. Does Winfast have anything similar?

You get EPG (which means something) if you get the current versions of drivers and applications from the leadtek website. Click the EPG button and you're taken to titantv.com where you create an account and then you can see your local TV listings. When you look at the current listings, you can click on the "record" icon and that will schedule a show to be recorded.

Here are some recommendations. Be aware that antenna reception is a mixture of science and art. It all depends on where you are in relation to the towers around you and what's between you and those towers. Be prepared to return a couple before you find the right one.

Internal: Radio Shack. I'm having decent luck with a Jasco extenal omni leaning against a wall in my office.

External (some can even be mounted in your attic): Wineguard and Channel Master get recommended quite often.

Try it with and without a preamp. Best bet is to find a neighbor who gets good reception and do what he does. Find a forum that discusses OTA in your regiion (search for your city here: avsforum.com. It's HDTV-centric but it doesn't matter).

With it's excellent quality, recordings use a little more than a gig per hour, and the 20gig drive stores about 17 hours.
This Winfast card doesn't sound like it can match the recording quality for space used, that the Dishplayer has. Correct?

My goal is to get close to the DP quality, but at about 1 CD per hour, or 700 meg per hour.
2 hours per CD would be much better. Is that possible while maintaining decent quality?

Next question is getting the info from DP to PC.
The data coming out of the DP is already at mpeg2, but of course the TV card won't know that.
If I could take the current mpeg 2 data, and compress it just a little more, then it would meets my size/time goals.
Seems like I would be going backwards converting the DP's mpeg2 to AVI, then back again to mpeg2.
Any ideas as to the best way to do this?

Have you looked into this? dishrip yahoo group

You might be able to burn the dishplayer file directly to DVD if you had a burner.

Edit: It looks like the drivers are the same but the applications are modified. My drivers I'm not updating as they are the same version: 5.13.1.243

Yepp I DLed these drivers... nothing special. I wish they had skins like the ATI TV cards... otherwise this card is like the BEST thing that I've ever bought for my computer... listen to radio AND watch TV... its like I will never have to leave my chair again!

I just got this card today and installed it in under 10 minutes! Very easy to install and works great with WindowXP.

So, what's the best way to record and compress something in vcd format, so that i can watch it on a standard dvd player?

What the hell, decided to order it to replace my WinTV. Now I can hookup my Xbox using Svideo, and have software that actually works in XP so I can use the remote. Am I going to need an Svideo cable or does it come with one I can just hook up to my Xbox Svideo out? If so, where's the best and cheapest place to get a short Svideo cable (good quality cable that is)?

Thanks,
Mike

I'm such a moron forgot I had an svideo cable that came with my Radeon 8500. Was looking for some good deals for one and someone had a problem with their 8500 svideo cable (it was a problem with his setup though, I think), when it came to me that I've had the cable the whole time too! Can't wait to get my TV2000 XP.

I got this card and installed it in Baby Rigzilla (see sig below) and liked it so much I got another for Rigzilla. Installed it in Rigzilla on Friday and tested it and it looked good (didn't hook up the audio, though), but (almost??) immediately started having problems with shutdown. The instant Windows 2000 Pro's message "Shutting down Windows 2000..." disappears, I see my mouse cursor and nothing else on a field of light blue (my desktop color) and the computer's completely frozen. Only recourse is a reset or LONG press of the power button. I tried a bunch of stuff, not knowing for sure it was the card's drivers but just disabled the 4 WDM drivers in Device Manager and the system can finally shut down. I had installed the latest drivers and AP files. Anybody else had a similar problem? My system specs:

Epox 8K7A motherboard
Athlon 1.2 GHz CPU
2 x 256 MB Crucial DDR ECC PC2100 266 RAM
MSI geforce2 Pro 64 MB DDR videocard
Hercules Game Theater XP soundcard
USR Model 2977 PCI hardware modem
Promise Ultra100 TX2 IDE controller
IBM Deskstar 60GXP 60 GB HDD ATA-100 IDE (Promise IDE1 Master) - Boot drive
WD1200JB 120 GB 8 MB Cache HDD ATA-100 IDE (Promise IDE2 Master)
Liteon 48125S CD-RW IDE 48x (Motherboard IDE2 Master)
Mitsumi Floppy
Enlight midtower case with 300 Watt PSU
NEC FP2141SB CRT
Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 3 (OS of choice)
Windows 98SE
Windows NT4 SP6a

If you do need S-Video cables, a good place is PCCables.com. I got some there and some other stuff. I thought the prices were very very good.

I tried downloading the latest drivers/application from the link given above.

That gets me to the Ledtek website in Taiwan but when I click on the download buttons nothing happens....blank screen..... for both uS and Taiwan servers.

Are there any other download locations?

OK, I see what this is. They have install software for several products on the CD. The Winfast TV USB is a different card.

Hi Don't know if anyone has been reading up on other TV tuners.

but it seems that the MSI TV@nywhere TV tuner uses the new CX23881 chipset but has similar (if not better) features than the Leadtek for approximatly the same price (atleast in Canada).

~95 CDN

I've been looking for a TV Tuner myself to do some capturing/ normal TV viewing... all Ican say is that I'll never go back to ATI... decent cards.. but lack of driver updates is unacceptable.

I've gone back to square one on my Epox 8K7A box running Windows 2000 SP3 and reinstalled the TV2000XP Deluxe and drivers/apps and continue to get lockups every time I shut down Windows. Anyone know anything about Leadtek's responsiveness to requests for tech support? It's one of their drivers that's hanging up my system.

Edit: This is not a flaky installation of Win2000. I installed it from scratch one week ago and it has all the latest Windows updates.

FWIW, I've had the same problem with my system (ECS K7S5A with WinXP SP1) since installing the latest application software from Leadtek. I don't think it happened with the previous release (which can still be downloaded from Leadtek's FTP server).

AFAIK, the drivers have not changed and are all version 5.13.1.243. I'll try installing the previous application software and see if it makes a difference. I doubt it will. I believe it's one of the drivers that's hanging up the system.

BTW, my audio capture driver, when I look at the properties, it has the same version but oddly Windows says that no drivers have been installed for the device. The same is true on my other system which has its own TV2000XP Deluxe and is apparently running without problems. I have not attempted to capture audio (FM) with the software since I have Total Recorder, which I figure is bound to do a better job. I successfully recorded FM using Total Recorder off the Winfast FM tuner.
