Are you running that under WinXP? I had one a while back and they said they had no intentions of supporting XP. I'll say though, that I didn't care for the WinTV software. I'll let you know if the Leadtek is better IMO.

Oh, and that "D" card is still one of the only digital tv tuners on the market. The Leadtek doesn't do DTV.
Does this thing get Digital Cable channels, or does it just decode Digital broadcasts with an antenna?

Just broadcast digital. Even the TV manufacturers didn't have a deal worked out with the cable companies for digital cable tuners in TVs until the last week or so. It will be a little while before PCI cards come out for the consumer market that support digital cable.

No, you don't pay for another cable box. Lemme put it in a simple way. Your TV tuner will get any channel (basic, pay or premium) that any cable-ready TV in your household will get. The TV tuners in your TVs support total channels up in the 100's, the tuner on your card is similar if not identical. Your tuner will not be able to "tune" any digital cable signals. Also, you may not be able to receive any premium channels like HBO or Cinemax unless the signal is decoded externally. What I mean is that they are not scrambled and then decoded via an external cable box. The service is essentially activated by your Cable Co. and the feed comes to your TV unscrambled. Some cable companies try charging you extra per television in a household (the only way they can tell is if they install the coax outs themselves), but thats a pretty dated practice.

As someone else noted, digital cable tuners will be some time away, as tvs still are not "digital cable" ready and still require those expensive digital converter boxes to support the full range of channels. HDTV signals require an HDTV tuner card to decode, and although they are available, the selection of channels probably doesn't justify the cost at this point in time. If you really wanted digital cable on your computer monitor, you'd probably need a digital cable box with a split or straight feed from the box to your tuner. I don't know what would happen if you split the digital feed, it may have some type of security. In any case, your tuner would treat this as a standard line-in signal, and you would need to use the digital cable box to change channels etc. (the same way you do on your TV.)

I had one of those Pinnacle systems TV cards one time. Couldn't get it to work at all with my video card at the time (Diamond Viper 550).

My biggest reservation is an incompatibility with the current video card I might get?? I mean don't the two have to communicate fairly closely over the bus??

Has anyone had any problems with this TV card and your video card???

Does anyone know if this card works (and works good) in Linux?

Fusion, I think this card uses the BT878 Fusion chip... and I think Linux has support for any card that uses BT878 series chips (bt878a, bt878 fusion, bt878khf.)

Might want to search google groups and check there for more details...

beware this card does not work well with G400 dual head setup. cpu usage is always above 90% if u max the window on the 2rd CRT (1280x1024). once u move it to the main CRT (1280x1024), it drops to 20%. did anyone try it with a 9700/9500? does it work well with dual monitor setup?

New drivers just came out. They seem to drop my CPU useage. You might have to get them from the Taiwan site but i had a good connection and the download time wasn't bad.

I finally bought the card yesterday even though the price had gone up to $63.99 but today it went down to $60.99. What bad timing!

Newegg does seem capricious a lot of times. One thing I've never understood about them is how they come up with their shipping charges. It almost looks as though someone throws a dart at a target and whatever number they hit, that's what they charge. OK, I'm sure it's not that stupid, but it does look sort of random.

Problems....

FM tuner only plays for 60 seconds or so then.....no sound. Signals are very strong here, so it's not a signal strength issue. Sound is very good for those 60 seconds.

Tried the normal uninstall/reinstall of the drivers and applications....no change. Even tried the drivers from LeadTek's site. Still no change. All other non-leadtek apps work fine on this Dell 8250 running XP Home.

Any ideas, or is time to send this card back to Newegg?

I bought the card also, but am having problems using the scheduling to record. The PVR program works fine for watching TV and recording manually (ie. pressing the record and stop buttons). When when i have it set to record on the schedule, it will record one program, with the volume all the way done, play back being virtually muted. THe program seems to also lock itself up after that, and cannot preview the video on subsquent startup of the software, requiring a reboot. Tried both the CD and drivers off the web, but don't think that worked right, becuase it remembered all my settings after removed and reinstalled....even my recording schedule. Any one else have something similar to this?? Using a Gigabyte 8IHXP, and a Hercules GTXP.

forcemac101,

you are not the only one. i have the same problem like yours. the schduler will launch the PVR program but will not record the channel i set to record. however, mine will not lock up like yours. i downloaded the lastest driver(1-9-2003) few hours ago. do not see any changes. well, let's see what will happen.

Make sure your settings are to record from line in and not microphone, check under windows for that, not under the TV cars settings.

I just got this card to make a Network HTPC.

I was wondering, I'm salvaging left over parts from various PC's and the only vid card I've been able to find is an old 4MB Trident. Rest of the HTPC box components are 1600+ @ 1900+, 512 DDR 2100, SBLive, etc.

All I'm doing with this box is saving TV programs and viewing them on my main box (2800+, 9700 Pro, 512).

Will the 4MB video card I have in the effect the recording quality of the images? Again I will not be viewing the shows on the HTPC box.

Thanks for the advice!
