The reception on this card is great. It will auto fine tune channels. I'm about 20 miles from the towers. Use the antennaweb link to find out where yours are. You may not be using the right kind of antenna for your location. And no, the card does not come with an antenna.

Now, though, I can go from FM --> TV, but I can't find a way back. Where they had an FM button it now has an internet link and it's labeled EPG and tooltip text is "EPG TV Program [F8]". It links to a page, F8 does nothing. When you hit the EPG button, you go to a site called TitanTV, which seems to be an online TV Guide, where you can register. Anybody sort this out?

About the FM -> TV, they dropped that functionality when they added the EPG support. I would have liked that too. Instead I have to go to the system tray, right-click on the Winfast wizard, and select Winfast FM.

Another quirk I've noticed is that something it does while recording a sheduled program disables the standby mode of the monitor.
Yeah, they shouldn't drop basic cool features. It would have been easy to just move that button over or put the new one elsewhere. The interface isn't THAT overcrowded. My Winfast Wizard didn't work when I tried it. Just installed the other day so I will discover more things. I have an icon for the FM and another for the PVR on my desktop. I may even drop at least the FM in my tray. Maybe they will reinstitute the FM button in a future release of the AP. Or, I guess I could run the older AP and have the EPG run as a shortcut in IE. Maybe that would be cooler, dunno.

Ordered card to replace Avermedia TV98 w/remote, which works well.
Should arrive any time now, but some posts here have me wondering
What am I missing here?
Many are using MPEG2, but why?
Specs show:
Capture format profile:Support friendly setting for MPEG-1/MPEG-2/MPEG-4

I thought MPEG4 was the way to go?

I'm not sure what card you got, but my Leadtek card definately came with an FM antenna. Maybe you are referring to the AM loop antenna, which it doesnt tune anyway, so its not a big deal. Overall, I'm very impressed with this card. I haven't had any of the issues I've read about, and everything works just fine.

I haven't done much recording with it, but its a piece of cake to setup.

I only installed a few days ago but I really like it so far. Haven't done any recording yet. I'm using my crappy antenna but as soon as I manage to get my real good antenna attached I know it will be just fantastic. It's already great. I just ordered a 2nd card for my other box.

Gonna try to get a real good FM antenna attached too. The signal I'm getting right now is substandard, and I want to record quality FM off it. However, I won't be using the supplied recording software for FM since I have Total Recorder which supports much better quality recording of MP3s. I'll just record the sound off my sound card.

Sorry, I meant it does not come with a TV antenna. It does come with an FM antenna.

MPEG-4 is fine for viewing on your computer. If you want to view it in a standalone DVD player, ya gotta do MPEG-2 for DVDs and SVCDs (or MPEG-1 for VCDs).

Has anyone recorded a program, burned to a CD((S)VCD), and then see if it will play in a stand-alone DVD player? Did it? IF so, how was the quality?

Also does the speed of your CPU and a graphics card affect the picture quality? For now all I have is onboard graphics(no AGP slot , yet, ) and a 1GHz CPU.

I'm still deciding between this card and the asus card. Waiting for my MSN reward dollars.

Thanks

Thanks yepper! Also in this price range would this be the best card for me for what im wanting to do for capturing? IM not really concered about the TV or FM turner. Also I checked out VCDHelp.com and have alot of reading to do. Ive worked with alot of software for converting Mpeg1/2 for VCDs and SVCDs. But never got into captureing movies I guess you would call it till now. Im wanting to take some old VHC movies convert to a DVD and using this card sounds pretty cool. Id hate to buy something I couldnt use or have poor video quality.
Again Thanks!

Anyone having problems where shows they set to record don't?

I seem to miss about 80% of the shows I have set to record on a weekly basis. ie repeating recordings.

I am having the same problems. I assumed it was because I didn't know what I was doing. I got one show to record on a recurring basis, but all the other one time recordings don't happen.

Do you use titantv.com to schedule the shows? I was thinking it might be because of the 'use this channel name check box' messing up the channel index...

I haven't messed with it much, but I noticed that my screensaver/'on resume display welcome screen' of Windows XP were causing problems. If I logged back in during a scheduled recording time, it would start recording the moment I logged in. I unchecked 'on resume display...'.

Not my issue. I don't use a screen saver. I have also noted the the recording software startup and not record while I am activly using the pc. Strange thing is that recordings set for a one time only date and time record without a hitch. I have never missed one of those.

So what format are all you guys and gals using for recording tv? I use mpeg2 optimal quality. It is the only format that can record with out loss of quality. Divx and xvid on the fly encoding doesn't work (too choppy), mpeg4 is too blocky, and others (including uncompressed avi) have visibile loss of quality. Mpeg2 is the only format that seems to keep original quality, but obviously file size is huge....(the 1hr 49min NBA rookie challenge is taking up 5gb on my HD)!

I have tried so many methods of converting mpeg2 to divx....but they all don't seem to work as mpeg2 conversions seem to be difficult in general. Even using the special mpeg2 version of Virtual Dub doesn't work as it crashes 1/10 of the way into compressing into a divx file...? What should I do?

I've noticed a lotta people are wondering if a standard TV antenna will work with these tuner cards and the quality. I just hooked up some pretty high-quality rabbit ears that I had from my college days. There are probably much nicer ones out there now that are actively powered, but the one I have is just a small AWACS looking dish with 2 extendable antennae. It worked really well for me about 8 years ago in the dorm my freshman year, but its probably more trouble than its worth for those of you interested. I can get a clear picture on my Asus TV 880, but the picture often deteriorates as soon as I move away from the antennae. Just an FYI.

I just ordered this Winfast Deluxe card....

I have one question for people who have used it before - I want to primarily use this to convert my Old PAL VHS tapes to NTSC and PAL DVDs

Does the Video IN support PAL?

I know the TV Tuner is NTSC only, but I cant figure out about the Video IN (I looked at a picture of ASUS, and it says NTSC on the S Video Terminal, so I decided to go in for Winfast DX TV2000XP)

Thanks

Hey does this TV Card support the TV to be running as a wallpaper? Or does it only allow in a window and full screen. I want to get one, but I fell in love with the ATI TV tuner cards that allows you to run the TV as a wallpaper. Just asking. Thanks!

I think it will if you use the right software.

What software is that? Is there 3rd party software you can use with any TV hardware? I thought the software was integrated with the hardware and that is all you can use with. Hmm does anybody have any other information? Thanks!

Though I have absolutely no business buying anything right now, I figured I'd find some way to justify $57 (Ramen for me for a few weeks ). I have a treadmill in the office and would love to free up the space taken by the TV. Much easier to watch something on the computer screen. Having a radio also helps free up some desk space. Anxious to try it out.
