Leadtek WInfast GTS GeForce2

Okay think I have finally made up my mind what to buy and where to buy.

1) What do you think of this card?

2) Anyone purchased from this vendor? SG3D.com

I know that I do want a GeForce card. A friend told me I did not really need the 64Mb version and that I would do well with the 32Mb. Typically I run 1024X768 32 bit. My other hardware specs are in my profile. I am fairly happy with the ASUS V6600 I have now but you know how it goes, ive been bitten by the bigger, better, faster bug .

I read it's the same card as the Elsa cards. It's one of the best cards for 2d. I read the heatsinc is weak.

The heatsink is one of the reasons it was recommended to me. It is a huge heatsink. Did you hear that it did not work well, if so where?

What drivers are you using? Detonators or the "stock" ones?

I also have this same card, and it's one of the best. Overclocks to 220/400 stable as hell with no artifacts and no extra cooling. Can even do 220/420 with no extra cooling but get's the "white snow" effect. Who ever told you the heatsink is weak is wrong, because the Leadtek coems with the biggest heatsink out of the whole bunch. I also have the TV-Out model if that matters. I use my own mixed drivers (6.49s and 6.31s) best speed + compatibility. Got 7050 3dmark with my 784mhz Athlon and this card. I play at 1024x786@32bit with 2x2 FSAA though, get around 50fps in Counterstrike which is plenty enough for me.

Someone earlier on in the post said the HSF was weak. My friend told me the same you did. Do you have the 32 or 64Mb version? What is the "white snow" effect? How do you mix the drivers (I think that is what you said)?

I have a 32mb version, the white snow effect is when you overclock too high and you start seeing white dots on your screen (which is bad). Mixing drivers is actualy fairly easy, just replace the files (like the D3D or OpenGL driver) from one version with another and then just install the drivers. The Readme file in each driver set tells you what file is what, I only replaced the OpenGL and the DirectDraw files from the 6.49 drivers with the ones in 6.31. Hope I explained everything right,

Yes you did thanks. What are your system specs? My 3D Mark with my ASUS 6600 is only 3523 (Win2000). That is a big difference. I wonder how much of a difference the 64 Mb would make?

Also the scores in Win2k are fairly lower, like 1000 points. I don't remember what I got when I benched in Win2k but I know it wasn't close to 7000 using 6.49s and DirectX8. On the other hand OpenGL performance is on par with WinME. If I where you I would wait till the NV20 comes out (should be in 2 months or so), the Ultra is gonna be the same price as the GTS is now, or save up and get the NV20 itself. The card will have hardware HSR (Hidden Surface Removal) which will speed the card up ALLOT and have better visual quility/features.

Besided the additional 84mhz our systems are fairly close. Sounds like the Leadtek card would be a definate improvement over my V6600. Is there an article on the NV20 I keep hearing about that you know of?

I found the 32Mb board for $159.00 (OEM)and $172.00 (RETAIL)I could care less what games it comes bundled with as long as there are dirvers. should I save the $13.00 or spend it and get the retail???

Hehe I don't know any article links off the top of my head, but go to www.nvnews.net and use the news search and look for "NV20" you should find plenty of articles/info on it. There's isn't much different between OEM and Retail, but on the other hand there is. The card itself is the same (in most cases), but the Warranty is not. That Gladiac looks like a great deal, and buy.com is a very nice store. I ordered a Plextor 12/10/32 and some CDRs from them not long ago, took only 4 days ground shipping for the packages to get to me.
