Yep...very true. I never have really cared for the random matchmaking that modern gaming has become.
Back in the day you picked who you played with - even if you didn't know them - rarely were there complete assholes like you see today. (remember trying to get enough people to play Warcraft 2?
They might as well age restrict you to play the game now. Chat restrictions left right and center for speaking your mind or trash talking the other team. Ranked restrictions for doing the same. Man what happened to competition? What happened to being able to make your enemy feel bad for losing, this is a competitive game this isn't child's play. If you feel hurt after a game because someone said something to you, suck it up and move on. Instead this game has become the epitome of tattle tales. Its breeding a generation of people unable to handle the real world. Never knew game developers had to become baby sitters as well. Shame on them, shame on Riot, and shame on the League community for supporting a lack of freedom. My 2 cents.
I've played since Season 1, well over 4k games by now. I've never been chat banned or suspended. No one I play with regularly has ever been chat banned or suspended. Which has led me to believe if you're getting chat banned or suspended you're saying stupid shit.
Mind you I was a Dota 1 player for years and that was more crass and "toxic" then League has ever been imo. You can rib people and talk trash without being a dick. I think chat bans are pretty dumb when the ignore button is so easy to use, but I'm pretty convinced most people who are getting them are earning them.

They really should just have two matching pools. One for people with social skills, and one for the people who enjoy calling strangers names.

Or they should just ban the people who consistently harass and insult other people. Put it in the TOS that abusing and insulting people can result in loss of your account and all purchases and enforce it.
Those people can go create a new low level account if they want back in. Or go play another game.
Or they can tell everyone else to grow a pair.
This thread is fucking hilarious and pretty much summarizes why I'm glad more games don't have voice chat. Good god people take this shit seriously.

They do this already. It doesn't stop it, it just makes them worse to the new people as they smurf/troll the low level new people.
The ONLY thing is to remove chat completely. Period. Not the perfect solution, but the only one that fixes the chat issue.
Of course, the chat issue isn't the worst issue so it really doesn't fix anything.
Question for the OP, which is a better indicator of maturity?
1. Enjoys an environment where insults are flung openly
2. Is able to deal with rules

I know what you are trying to say but it's not that simple. I would say #1. Would you consider the Pilgrims immature? Rules are not absolute and 'mature' self thinking people (famous people) break them all the time.
People who can deal with other peoples actions w/o it letting them affect them are the mature ones. But then, everyone has a little bit of immaturity in them, or else they wouldn't be playing games to begin with.
I'm not sure I'd equate religious persecution to....telling people they'll be banned for demanding someone commit suicide for not playing a video game well enough.
No idea why you keep using the most extreme case of verbal abuse possible, which isn't even all that bad to be honest. You make it seem like every time you play an online game someone is telling you to kill yourself. Maturity is subjective, and rules will always be broken. In real life I don't follow the rules all the time, and I don't know anyone that does either If you want to live that way by all means go on ahead. I think I am quite mature, and I grew up in a different environment than you. If you don't like name calling in online games then mute or ignore those that do it. For those that don't mind that type of behavior then its open game for them.
It doesn't quite work that way. Video games are played by a very large contingent of children. By and large, those children absolutely don't need to hear the type of language some adults tend to use. It's hardly 'open game' when you've got 10-12 year olds playing. Since these game systems are marketed to kids, and the companies know that kids play them, those companies are going to work very hard to make it acceptable to parents, or they'll lose a big part of the market. So they are motivated to try to keep the more immature folks in line.
That said, swearing is hardly necessary to have a good time, and I shudder at the mindset of people who think otherwise.
