I thought private servers were awesome for older FPSs. Someone being a total jerk, IP ban. Fixed. Done.

Worked great for years!

Yep...very true. I never have really cared for the random matchmaking that modern gaming has become.

Back in the day you picked who you played with - even if you didn't know them - rarely were there complete assholes like you see today. (remember trying to get enough people to play Warcraft 2?

I miss just having a server list and picking a server with a map rotation you wanted (or admins you liked playing around)...playing stuff like Titanfall on XBox is annoying. "Not this map!" Leave, join again...crap, back on the same game. Fine I'll change modes.

They might as well age restrict you to play the game now. Chat restrictions left right and center for speaking your mind or trash talking the other team. Ranked restrictions for doing the same. Man what happened to competition? What happened to being able to make your enemy feel bad for losing, this is a competitive game this isn't child's play. If you feel hurt after a game because someone said something to you, suck it up and move on. Instead this game has become the epitome of tattle tales. Its breeding a generation of people unable to handle the real world. Never knew game developers had to become baby sitters as well. Shame on them, shame on Riot, and shame on the League community for supporting a lack of freedom. My 2 cents.

Absolutely 100% correct, I wouldn't call it a "childs" game though, "crybabies" game is more accurate IMO.

I remember being abused/giving out abuse freely on battle.net chat in 1998, its text from random people you don't know and will likely never interact with again! Why this is such a big deal ill never know. The amount of handholding present in games these days is crazy. I dont even use the chat anymore in LoL, most people dont seem to bother tbh, quiet games these days compared to 2010-2011.

I've played since Season 1, well over 4k games by now. I've never been chat banned or suspended. No one I play with regularly has ever been chat banned or suspended. Which has led me to believe if you're getting chat banned or suspended you're saying stupid shit.

Mind you I was a Dota 1 player for years and that was more crass and "toxic" then League has ever been imo. You can rib people and talk trash without being a dick. I think chat bans are pretty dumb when the ignore button is so easy to use, but I'm pretty convinced most people who are getting them are earning them.

After LIVE turned into "who can say the most annoying crap over and over" and we all know "barrens chat", why would they want to ruin a good game with that childish stuff? I have to agree, if your trash talk goes into the realm of bad taste, its not the games problem its yours. Besides, who needs to trash talk, let your game speak for you. The worst of it is everybody says "kiddies" but most of its adults who should have enough intelligence to not use "bannable" insults, they are, after all supposedly smart enough to not just repeat what 5 year olds giggle at and think its a good taunt.

So, you can't play a game and be nice at the same time.... and it's not a game for children.....

ho boy.

They really should just have two matching pools. One for people with social skills, and one for the people who enjoy calling strangers names.

Well they do now. They decided to shaft anyone who gets ranked restrictions to normal queue. So anyone who doesn't play ranked will have to pay the price and deal with the trouble makers.

Or they should just ban the people who consistently harass and insult other people. Put it in the TOS that abusing and insulting people can result in loss of your account and all purchases and enforce it.

Those people can go create a new low level account if they want back in. Or go play another game.

This thread is fucking hilarious and pretty much summarizes why I'm glad more games don't have voice chat. Good god people take this shit seriously.

Yes, because it should be acceptable to tell people to go commit suicide because they suck at playing amumu.

It's Riot's right to tell people to put soap in their mouth or be banned. I'm glad they're doing it. Any game server I was an admin on in past certainly didn't tolerate the level of crud I saw regularly on LoL; I kicked (and banned if need be) people who could do nothing but trash talk and insult. I'm fine with cursing, but I didn't accept any level of insults.

Meh, all Moba's are child's game as they devolve into someone spewing vitriol at one teammate or another, no one mature enough to take a loss or learn to control their temper.

I don't take it seriously, but it gets old listening to someone going on endlessly like they just discovered curse words. I couldn't care less about the odd f-bomb. I just don't need to play with people who get off on making others feel bad.

It's supposed to be fun - even when played competitively. If you can't play a competitive game and keep your mouth civil, it says a LOT about you.

They do this already. It doesn't stop it, it just makes them worse to the new people as they smurf/troll the low level new people.

The ONLY thing is to remove chat completely. Period. Not the perfect solution, but the only one that fixes the chat issue.

Of course, the chat issue isn't the worst issue so it really doesn't fix anything.

And they'll get banned again at low level. Enough high level people have low level toons that will know how to report if the real newbies don't.

Question for the OP, which is a better indicator of maturity?

1. Enjoys an environment where insults are flung openly
2. Is able to deal with rules

I know what you are trying to say but it's not that simple. I would say #1. Would you consider the Pilgrims immature? Rules are not absolute and 'mature' self thinking people (famous people) break them all the time.

People who can deal with other peoples actions w/o it letting them affect them are the mature ones. But then, everyone has a little bit of immaturity in them, or else they wouldn't be playing games to begin with.

I'm not sure I'd equate religious persecution to....telling people they'll be banned for demanding someone commit suicide for not playing a video game well enough.

No idea why you keep using the most extreme case of verbal abuse possible, which isn't even all that bad to be honest. You make it seem like every time you play an online game someone is telling you to kill yourself. Maturity is subjective, and rules will always be broken. In real life I don't follow the rules all the time, and I don't know anyone that does either If you want to live that way by all means go on ahead. I think I am quite mature, and I grew up in a different environment than you. If you don't like name calling in online games then mute or ignore those that do it. For those that don't mind that type of behavior then its open game for them.

It doesn't quite work that way. Video games are played by a very large contingent of children. By and large, those children absolutely don't need to hear the type of language some adults tend to use. It's hardly 'open game' when you've got 10-12 year olds playing. Since these game systems are marketed to kids, and the companies know that kids play them, those companies are going to work very hard to make it acceptable to parents, or they'll lose a big part of the market. So they are motivated to try to keep the more immature folks in line.

That said, swearing is hardly necessary to have a good time, and I shudder at the mindset of people who think otherwise.

This isn't the 50's. Those kids are using worse language than you generally.

People always want to talk about following rules, but don't think about all the rules that are broken because they don't agree with them. It's all subjective. Those people were breaking rules. Just because you agree with why they were breaking them doesn't mean they weren't.

I know I've never told someone to go kill themselves, but I have been told that many times in the game. I'm still here. I'm guessing it wasn't a 30 year old person telling me that either.
