use google translate.

basically, a single 6870, ~12K in vantage extreme.

That's around 35% faster than 5870 and ~20% faster than GTX 480.

word on other chinese tech forums indicate that the SP units have been tweaked to be a lot more efficient so performance should increase in a wide range of games. tessellation has seen a massive boost as well.

ps. Expect a big price cut for the 5850 and 5870 next week.

pss. Expected price of 6870 = 3000 chinese yuan = ~$440 USD. So can guess the 6850 will be $340 USD??

Updated: Here's some images:

Crysis: 1900x1200 res, 4xAA, everything maxed. average fps = 43.55. CPU = i7-930 @ 4.2ghz
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/7441/crysiss.jpg

Unigine: Extreme tessellation, 1900 x 1200 res, 4xAA, maxed.
http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/6321/uniy.jpg
GTX480, 1080p, 4xAA: 38.7 fps. It's a bit higher but the resolution is lower, so in Unigine, the 6870 is comparable to the gtx480. Finally, ATI fixed its tessellator!

And finally, Vantage

Can anyone replicate that crysis bench, with identical settings? I'd like to see some 5850/5870 and gtx480 numbers.
Actually: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...i_6.html#sect4
GTX480 @ 1080p (less than 1900x1200), 4xAA: 34.2 fps.

I'm guessing on pricing.

6870 : 1,499 USD.
6850 : 1,199 USD

35% for a next gen?

Thanks TSMC.

Price cuts are always welcome......5870 for $299?

Edit: Not that you can really judge game performance by that particular benchmark.

If it is coming end of Sept to early Oct now would be about the time for us to start getting the leaks. AIBs would have to have full production-ready boards in hand by now to begin ramping production and shipping units for a hard-launch as well AMD's driver teams having plenty of hardware to dev on.

35% is substantial but not beyond expectation.

It's not "NEXT GEN" per-se.. more like half-gen.

Still, i was expecting around a 20% boost at same frequencies, but getting 35% out of the same 850mhz core is good. Something else to think about, the current 5870 can hit 1ghz often, so given their experience with TSMC at this node, i would not be surprised if the 6870 is a monster OCer.

10.8a is fixing crossfire scaling very nicely, good timing from ATI. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/08/26/ati_crossfirex_application_profile_108a_performance

I mainly play BFBC2 and SC2, so the AA for the later and faster performance in bc2, good work!

Its not next gen, its a refresh of the current model, or rather a freak child of current gen and next gen. Think 9700 pro to 9800 pro. The NI is the next gen your thinking of which comes out mid-late next year.

Given that the full 512SP gf100 is only 6% faster than the current gtx480, NV has no response in line to deal with S.I. when it lands. ATI will have single GPU performance crown and multi-GPU card crown as well.. until late 2011 when N.I. and Fermi 2 make their debut on 28nm.

A price cut on current 5850 and 5870 will make them competitive vs gtx460 and 470. However, the new 6770 has an expected performance of near a 5850, but slightly above 5770 levels in terms of pricing. NV will be having a rough year until Fermi 2.

So now a 3D vantage score is all we need to judge performance on the next gpu?

I wouldnt be that quick to judge.

What does a 480 score in the same benchmark with TODAYS drivers?

Looking forward to the reviews alright!

Given that the full 512SP gf100 is only 6% faster than the current gtx480

I’m not trying to start a flame war, just correcting

The 6% more performance was with 700MHz core and it shows that GF100 gets an avg. of 5,67% performance from 32 more SPs (512) witch is 6,67% more than 480SPs.

At 800MHz, witch is the default clocks of this card and not 700MHz, a GF100 with 512SP is 20% faster than a GTX480.

Doesn't the link only show 17% improvement over the 480 after overclocking?

Ie, at the same clocks it's ~6% faster than a 480. At default clocks it's 9.6% faster than a 480. After overclocking it's 17.3% faster than a 480.

So 6870 might be roughly equal to an overclocked 512SP 480.

~10k... this was the first one i found on google:
from forum post linked above said:
My 480 is running at 800/1600/4000, i7 @ stock 2.67GHz, memory at DDR3 1066. How is it? PhysX is disabled.

The new refresh from ATI looks impressive!

Synthetics like 3DMark mean squat for actual gaming performance. Until we see actual game benchmarks, we’re still only guessing how much faster it’ll be.

Nvidia is in trouble if this is true. Big trouble. Ati will have the top performing cards and even a last gen card (58XX) to compete with nvidia on pricing. All nvidia could do is lower the 400 series to even lower prices and from what I've heard they are not even making much at current prices. With nothing to counter with until next December it's bad news for nvidia.
