How many of you are using Server 2003? Why would i use it in a home?

It's not really for home use, unless your testing it out for something. You could use it at home I guess. I mainly want to learn it for career advancement. There is not a whole lot of money in PC tech stuff, the real money is made by Sys Admins & Engineers. Those guys make twice what I do, and seem to do less work. That could just be my biased opinion.

By the way, the videos are all just like the demo. Fricken cool!

I'm wondering the same thing. I plan on setting up a file/print server, but I don't know how Win2K3 server would be beneficial for that. I still have my trial CD from Microsoft that I havent installed yet.

By the way breweyez, these videos seem to be more focused on how to use and manage the server, and not geared towards the exams. Actual knowledge instead of testing knowledge. What a concept. I have only watched one of them and skimmed the rest. Well worth $10. I would say this is a smokin hot deal! I am so glad I came accross this! Thanks

Windows 2003 can be used very well as a file and a print server. That's what it is made to do. May be overkill for home, but works great!

I just watched the free sample and thought it was great. The file used DRM for Media Player, so I was wondering if I download the whole series on my work laptop (since I'm out of town for work right now), can I watch some of the videos now and transfer the files to my home PC when I get home and watch the rest of them there. I'm not sure how this DRM stuff works.

I kinda wanna buy/DL this now, but I'd like to watch them at home too.

You get a username and password for the series, and that will allow you to view them. Once the DRM certificate is installed on your machine, you can watch all the videos without asking for anything again. I am not sure if you can install more than once. I don't see why not?

I bought the full version and the DRM asked me for my username/password to obtain a license. Once I did that, I was able to play the videos with no problems. I did this on one PC, then I transfered the file over to my laptop and was able to login to get a license and play the video with no problem. So you shouldn't have a problem accessing the video's on other machines, just don't forget your username/password

I have two machines here at home, and the video's are working on both with the same username and password. Both machines had to go out to the internet and get authorization, but they both work fine. I think the DRM is just there so the videos don't show up on P2P networks. If the same username and password gets used too much, they can probably shut it down. I figure that I am the only one using them, so it should not make a difference which machine I want to watch them on.

I used to encode WM videos, and you specify in the DRM settings how many licenses a user is granted. So you guys are not maxing out at two or three licenses (for each computer) but may max out at 5 or 6 (or it may be unlimited). gl hf.

Did you buy this series? Please let us know if they are as good as the CBT Nuggets. The nuggets seem to be focused on certification, but they are several hundred dollars. I guess for $10, I'll probably just give em a try. I can't even buy a book for that price. I don't really plan on getting certified, but I would like to learn a little about this server stuff.

I have not used the CBT nuggets before, so I don't know how they compare, but these videos are well worth the money. I have watched most of them now, and I have learned alot. The one on IIS 6 is pretty awesome. I did not know setting up a web server was so easy! I don't know what I am going to serve with it, but I have it up and running now. I am going to check out the email server one after lunch. Hope that helps.

I just purchased this and viewed 1 1/2 videos. They're short and pretty basic but pretty good nonetheless. They're straight forward and easy to understand.

I'd say they don't compare to the Nuggets videos, simply because they lack depth, but for the price they're certainly a great deal. The Windows 2000 MSCE package from Nuggets cost $400 when I got it.
