When I go out to bars/night clubs and try to dance, I feel all stiff and not fluid in my movement like many others on the floor. I doubt there is a dance club that teaches you how to do club dancing, but I'm sure there are types if dance classes that I could take to help me get a little bit of rythem in my step.

Any one have any suggestions? I dont like looking like a bum on the floor.

Try and drink before you go out... while your listening to some funky music

That helped me alot of times

Solid advice from VoodooExtreme. Alcohol is the only thing that would get me out on the dance floor.

I feel exactly the same drunk or sober on the floor.

The only difference is, when I'm drunk, I bump into more people.

Ahh yes, liquid confidence

But really though, i'm rhythmically challenged myself and don't know of any cure.

Don't feel bad some people just can't dance. If you are one of those people don't try to move your feet to much. Instead focus on your hips, waste and arm movement. Once you start getting the rythem in upper body your legs will follow. Also, be carefull of drinking to much, it is always good to be able to see who you are dancing with. Beer goggles can be dangerous.

Also, dancing infront of a mirror or shadow dancing can really help. It may seem kinda wierd but if you can't do it by your self than there will be no way to do it infront of others.

I dont drink all that much. I'm usually with a group of 4 or 5 guys, and 3/5 times, I'm the driver in the group.

When I do drink, I usually have no more than what gets me buzzed over the entire night. I dont like the feeling I get after being buzzed. After 1AM its just water for me.

hmmm... Apparently its the male side of my family that sucks at dancing. When my family went to the Dominican Republic for spring break last year, I made a bunch of friends, and ended up including my 16 year old sister in our group. She was making the other girls in the club look like crap on the floor. (with her dancing - I cant say she's hot cause, well she's my sister )

I think I'm the only guy in my family that even tries to dance. My dad is totally stiff and really not social at all. I think this is where my problem comes from. I want to break out if this.

That is the best advice yet. That's how I learned how to dance. I was just like you, Sefan. Put on a song that you really like. Go into your bedroom (or bathroom if you want to see yourself, but if you are really that bad, I'd recommend sticking to your bedroom) and let loose. Note: Make sure to close your blinds, so nobody can see into yer house.

Let the music flow around you. Close your eyes and just feel the rythm. Let your arms go limp and get comfortable moving around.

More great advice. Your hips are the most important part of dancing.

This has worked for me. I can cut a rug with the best of 'em.

Here try my "favorite band" link. It is not the typical "Club" music but it is fun to dance to. Also, maybe your just going to the wrong clubs. Try going to bars with a live band. The girls at the shows are usually a little cooler and more adventurous.

Try taking a class at a college ... I think they're campus recreational classes so they're open to anyone. Maybe you don't have confidence in your dance moves. Like someone said before, I would suggest doing it in front of the mirror and/or maybe get few of your friends to watch while you're dancing.
