I've heard a lot of complaints about Tobey Maguire as spiderman, but those people are simply wrong. Peter Parker is a fucking dorkwad in the comics, he's perfect.
But Eric Forman was 100% wrong for venom as venom was a massive lantern jawed badass before he got the venom suit, not the scrawny guy known for his wisecracks. That whole film was more or less an abomination though so its like complaining about flies on a turd.
yeah, it kind of baffles me how people forget that Peter Parker began life as a shy, friendless dork. Maguire was perfect for that, and I think the first 2 Spiderman flicks are among the best comic book flicks to date. I particularly like the 2nd one. Spidey's wise-cracks came later, with greater confidence. The first Spiderman is a flick about Peter Parker discovering who he is, so I honestly can't think of anyone more perfect than Maguire.
I don't have a problem with Kirsten Dunst either; though she isn't exactly what I imagined of Mary Jane--depending on the genre of Spiderman that you grew up on. I mostly remember the Eric Larson years, where Mary Jane was a rarely-clothed, hyper-sexed slut.
probably not the image they wanted for a mainstream release...
and yeah, back to Orlando Bloom. The point of the thread is horrible casting--not horrible actors. I think that's what people are going for, here. I'm not particularly a fan of Bloom, but he does well in parts: LoTR as a wee elf--manages to be badass and lame all at once. go figure. perfect in Troy b/c he plays the little bitch that he resembles. Horrible in KoH b/c he is the little bitch that he isn't supposed to be
for that role (<--casting).
