Lol, wow! I don't think I've ever seen a John Wayne movie and now I'm not sure I want to. D:

KT

You should at least see Stagecoach (his first) and The Searchers.

great, great flicks. But he is a terrible actor, lol.

...and that Ghengis Kahn crud is the worst I've ever seen. It's kind of tough (unfair) to pick movies in this age, b/c there is so much that is always going to be bad--laws and social standards of the time that actually prevented the studios (not that they weren't culpable themselves) from casting natives for such roles.

It's like a smorgasbord of horrible decisions when you compare to contemporary standards. hehe.

He doesn't look the part, he looks the hollywood ideal for the part. Jesus was supposedly short, dark with woolly hair with a scraggly beard. James is 6'2, not really dark and doesn't have anything close to woolly hair. In all honestly Sherman Hemsley fits the description that was in my Bible. George Jefferson would have made a much more bad ass Jesus IMHO.

I would see that shit in a second.

Though I'd prefer Grady.

:hmm:

anyway, Jesus was a Palestinian, basically. tan is more accurate. closer to white than black, but certainly not a "blue-eyed white boy."

A true classic film. Not his first lead, but it was the role that made him a star. I also quite like his performance in the Shootist.

I really don't mind Cage or Cruise. Sure, some of their movies aren't the best, but they aren't horrible.

I kept thinking at the end of "Into the Wild" that Emile Hirsch's character was such a little bitch for acting the way he did. The movie was good and the message was there, but I couldn't help but actually hate the character at the end of it.

Why would we specifically complain about Orlando Bloom in Troy? The guy sucks and is miscast in like every movie he's ever been in. Cage also gets a pass because he was in Lord of War and that movie was awesome. Kirsten Dunst was terrible in the Spiderman movies imo and was a horrid pick for MJ. I hate her as an actress so much(I also think she looks like she got hit in the face with a shovel), but I thought she was good in How to lose friends and alienate people.

well, I actually thought Tobey Maguire was excellent for Peter Parker.

Eric Forman...yeah, that was garbage.

I've heard a lot of complaints about Tobey Maguire as spiderman, but those people are simply wrong. Peter Parker is a fucking dorkwad in the comics, he's perfect.

But Eric Forman was 100% wrong for venom as venom was a massive lantern jawed badass before he got the venom suit, not the scrawny guy known for his wisecracks. That whole film was more or less an abomination though so its like complaining about flies on a turd.

Anna Paquin (sp) as Rogue.

She certainly is nothing like the Rogue in the comics, but the Rogue in the movies isn't really the same character. She's basically just your standard damsel in distress.

Why so much hate against Nick Cage? Granted some of his movies have been really bad(The Knowing), but he's got a lot of really good ones too.

Surprise no one's mentioned Batman and Robin yet, George Clooney as Batman and Arnold as Freeze. WTF.

Nick Cage has been in good movies, but I'm not sure he's actually good. He seems to have gotten into a positive (money positive) feedback loop of big dumb pop corn flicks during the 90s that turned him into a box office draw. I'm scratching my head as to why this happened, since the one character he seems to play most of the time is annoying. Some people say they like Robert Deniro because he's a good actor. What they really mean is they like the one character (probably a badass version of himself) that Robert Deniro plays in every film he's ever been in.

Batman and Robin was an epic turd. Arnold was fucking hilarious in his role because it was so shit.

Elijah Wood as Frodo and Sean Astin as Sam. I can barely watch those parts anymore. They don't seem like hobbits at all to me.

Gong Li as a Cuban in Miami Vice. She was awesome as always...almost enough to make you forget the ridiculosity...but, come on.

Jackie Chan as a gang leader in Shinjuku Incident.

I want to say Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, but it's hard to separate his badness from the rest of that wretched disaster they called a movie. I'd have to be able to think of someone who could have made that role work well, considering how it was written and directed. Maybe I could if I put some thought into it, but I'm not going to bother.

Dolph Lundgren as the priest in Johnny Mnemonic.

Juergen Prochnow as the French guy in Robin Hood. I usually love him, but...sorry, no.

Peter Weller as Robocop. I was never able to take him seriously.

Eric Stoltz in Some Kind of Wonderful. Just so blah. Almost ruins the movie.

Actually, as some one else mentioned Orlando Bloom wasn't miscast in Troy, everything else yes, but not troy. Paris was a total little bitch and I totally buy Orlando as a little bitch. Sorry Orlando, we all have our strengths...I'm afraid yours is portraying little bitches princes that should be disowned by their families for letting their dicks get out of control. I mean, you hate that fucking character when you read about him. He basically destroys the Trojans entire civilization for some pussy. Yes, Helen of Troy was supposedly super hot but he is a prince so he already had more ass than he knew what to do with but nooooo...he has to have the one woman that will destroy his entire civilization. Worst of all, it looked like he'd already got to bang her in Troy. He should have just left her ass in Greece.

ANYWAY...how about any native american character in any movie from the 60s?

Yeah, I remember thinking that when I saw the movie.

Similar with Keanu Reeves playing the emotionless robot in The Day The Earth Stood Still. It's like the role was made for him.

yeah, it kind of baffles me how people forget that Peter Parker began life as a shy, friendless dork. Maguire was perfect for that, and I think the first 2 Spiderman flicks are among the best comic book flicks to date. I particularly like the 2nd one. Spidey's wise-cracks came later, with greater confidence. The first Spiderman is a flick about Peter Parker discovering who he is, so I honestly can't think of anyone more perfect than Maguire.

I don't have a problem with Kirsten Dunst either; though she isn't exactly what I imagined of Mary Jane--depending on the genre of Spiderman that you grew up on. I mostly remember the Eric Larson years, where Mary Jane was a rarely-clothed, hyper-sexed slut.

probably not the image they wanted for a mainstream release...

and yeah, back to Orlando Bloom. The point of the thread is horrible casting--not horrible actors. I think that's what people are going for, here. I'm not particularly a fan of Bloom, but he does well in parts: LoTR as a wee elf--manages to be badass and lame all at once. go figure. perfect in Troy b/c he plays the little bitch that he resembles. Horrible in KoH b/c he is the little bitch that he isn't supposed to be for that role (<--casting).

I've added Stagecoach to my queue. I'm not a huge western guy though, so we'll see.

The Cowboys had the best trash talking line I have ever seen/heard in a movie. It wasn't a great movie, but that few minutes that preceded and followed that line was awesome.

I've seen it. I don't like him with clothes on, and I really don't like him with his clothes off.

Dude is a fun movie but he was upstaged by Kristy Swanson.

I understand the question. Those movies would have been better with anybody, even LaBoofer, in them.

Actually, I don't think Chef LaBeefadee just shut the fuck up in his movies. He plays the same fucking guy in every movie, a not funny guy that thinks he's funny.

Bill Paxton in any movie. I hate his voice with a passion.
I don't know too many with an opinion of him, but you and someone I know genuinely hates him with a passion. I don't get it. He seems like a regular dude in the most in-offensive roles.
I usually organize a bar meet up for a friends birthday for the past several years. When I have to contact the Bill Paxton hater, I have to mention it during the invite..."Bill Paxton will be there." Or, "Bill Paxton has declined the invitation with regret."
