Leaving Comcast for FIOS

Not bad, I've got the following:

30 mbps Optimum Boost internet: $29.99/Mo
VOIP Optimum Voice: $14.99/Mo
IO Gold: $55/Mo (490 Ch w/all prem channels) or IO Silver: $45/Mo (300 ch w/ half prem channels) or Family Cable $25.99/Mo (200 ch)
DVR + HD service: Free

Total with Silver and extra box = ~$100/Mo

Or I can just go with family cable which is around 200 ch for $80/Mo. Rep said I can change between the 3 anytime I want for the same rates.

Install is Monday, cant wait.

EDIT: IO Gold is normally $85.99 and Silver 75.99 giving me a $30 discount there, Internet is normally 29.99 for 15 mbps and $39.99 for 30 mbps, and the VOIP is normally $29.99.

Reason I didn't go with family is because its normally $29.99 only giving me a $5 discount.

EDIT 2: Holy shit, they also offer 101/15 mbps internet speeds for an additional $55/Mo. I don't need anything that fast but it sounds intense.

I just go the FIOS internet and TV last week. For the three or so days that I used it, i really enjoy the internet speed, and I really like the PQ on the HD dvr box. Also, the interactive menu / VOD has a better interface then the comcast box that my GF uses at her place. I do have concerns though that the MocA Bridge / wireless router they gave me will not be able to handle the abuse that i will eventulally be dishing out to it.

Hopefully my HD DVR box can record the three or four shows I like while i'm away at work for the next two weeks.

I will say that Verizon almost screwed up my Install and it took over an hour with various tiers of support before i got Transfered to what i beleive was called their "elite Customer service" group before they fixed the mistake.

For those who are curious: (sorry for the off topic ness of this, but it might be helpfull to those who live in apartments)
The long and short of it was... previous tenent in Apt never cancelled service (TV & internet). When ordered service on line, the system recognized that there was an active circuit / account at my address. I clicked the option to cancell old service and start billing the new stuff in my name. Spoke with a VZ agent before install date to confirm that old tenent was not in apt any more and that I indeed was ordering new service. Some how what was lost in translation was whether I still had any VZ eqiupment on the premise, IE set top boxes or the MocA Router. On the day of the install, i was told to expect the Tech between 9am and 5pm. I called VZ around 1230 to confirm that somebody was coming over to set up the equipment..... VZ told me that the install order was allready closed and no tech would be sent to location b/c they "connected" everything at their and I was good to go. I explained I had no equipment and was never told about no tech being sent when i spoke to VZ prior to confirm who I was and that the previous tenent moved out. After speaking with various people in the Fiber Solutions Center & them speaking with Dispatch, I got transfered to the "elite customer service group." They took my info, I explained calmly what the situation was ( I was very pissed at this point). They put me on hold for a few minutes and then told me a tech woudl be there before 5 pm. 60-75 minutes a Tech called and said he was enroute. After that, installed system like normal.

i'm in the same boat, in my area we don't have verizon fios or att u-verse. For tv service in my area, it's either comcast, direct tv, or dish network. For internet, it's either comcast or att dsl, or one of the local dial up companies.

Lucky bastard; FIOS still isn't available in my area. My co-worker has it and brags to me on a fairly regular basis of the sick upload speed he gets, since the local cable companies of my area have great download but crap upload speeds.

So we just got slower, cheaper service with Comcast.

I used to be able to download at 1.2mb/sec, now I can't download past about 300 kbps on comcrap. Iw as trying to play l4d2 last night, but it took more than 2 days to download the stupid game because of the comcrap limiting. I like it better than some arbitrary 250gb limit, but it's still annoying that my bandiwth is now 1/5th of what it was, but I am paying the same amount. Which is $180 for tv, phone and internet. Screw you comcrap, you are ebbing fired in about an hour once I decide where I am going.

biggest annoyance is the tiny ass dvr capacity, but even that is still the same as cox, just not better.

The one time i had to call the FIOS customer support, they pulled through for me. See my post at the top of the page about my issue.

I was thinking FIOS was Fiber Optics which is what I have where I live. Unless it is something else entirely, I have AT&T fiber optics.

Nope. Their goal was and still is 100% docsis 3.0 by end of calendar year 2010. They are the leading MSO in 3.0 deployment and market penetration. Basically Comcast is the leader in cable internet service. It's not even close.
