So I'm going to Oahu for a week and my flight leaves at 9:45 AM but I have to be at the HS at 2 am. It's a band trip (I graduated but still get to go) but since my mom is also going we get to go wherever we want on the island and don't have to stay with the group. As you can imagine I'm very excited to be going and I've never been. What should I do there? Anyone have any pics? Is there anything in particular I should be warned about? Thanks in advance!

Enjoy the scenery. Hike, explore, lounge on the beach. Take a surfing lesson. Go snorkeling.

Wear sunscreen. Avoid "local areas" of town where they don't take too kindly to "howlies".

Yes, I am that hedgehog girl. Unfortunately I had to sell my herd of 30 because I am leaving for college (Vet Med) in the fall and thought it would be too much for my parents to take care of.

We're not going to Hawaii for band camp, it's just a trip. I dropped out of band after first semester of this past year, but my sis is still in it so I get to go. It's sorta unfortunate that I'm leaving tonight because I'm building a new computer and the parts arrived about noon today. At least my boyfriend will have something to do while I'm gone

lol, I don't think I'm that stupid Our hotel will be two blocks from Waikiki beach and seems pretty nice, but they charge $9.95 daily for internet access.

Go see the BIG WAVE surfing spots of that Island.

Also, Oahu is a party Island. Lots of good people watching sitting in a bar watching the babes pass by.

It's the funnest party Island of the chain.

I'd try to take a short flight to the Big Isalnd for 2-3 days.....you can see lava, the famous telescopes (Keck), and hike around inside lava craters (lfeels like walking on the moon). To me, the BIG ISLAND is the best Island--bar none. Well worth a side trip!

Some things in no particular order for Oahu:

- Visit the Arizona Memorial.
- Take a hike up Diamond Head.
- Visit Punchbowl Memorial Cemetary.
- Don't bother with the big wave spots (North Shore) this time of year.
- If you do head out to the North Shore, you can catch the sunset if you're there around 7:00ish.
- The sunset from Waikiki beach is nice as well.
- Take surfing lessons.
- Visit Hanauma Bay.
- I would highly recommend not walking around Waikiki barefoot like a lot of tourists do.
- I would highly recommend not going on the internet.
- Don't know how the Zoo is in Farmington Missouri but it's probably better than ours.
- If you really want to relax and get away, take a quick trip to a neighbor island.
- Take LOTS of pictures.

Have fun!

Aruba was very safe. My wife and I went there for our honeymoon and never had any security issues or felt threatened in any way. We didn't just hit the touristy areas either.

Oahu is the only island we haven't been to. They say the Northern part of the island is quite beautiful and much more rural if you enjoy nature.

A helicopter ride is a must on the other islands, but I don't know about Oahu. They can be quite expensive.

Now for me, a great side trip would be Kauai. Hanalei Bay on the Northern end of the island is said to be the most beautiful spot on earth.

We'll be there late October, early November.

The sun is brutal from 10 to 2. Keep that in mind.

My wife wants to go to Aruba. I've heard that the beach and gambling are the two major things to do there. Both of those are not our thing. Would we like it there? What is there to do?

#1 wear some sun screen so you don't get burnt into a crisp.

Go check out the USS Battleship Missouri, I believe this coming weekend there is the Taste of Honolulu, Waikiki there are a lot of stuff to do, you'll be busy. Listen to what everyone said, you don't need to be on the internet while you're basting in the beautiful weather in Hawaii. There is a zoo located right towards the end of Waikiki. If you're into clubbing, there are quite a few clubs to enjoy while you're here (night life).

What do you like to do?

Our goal was to just make it up as we went along. My wife took $5 to the slot machines one night just to play around. That was the extent of our gambling experience there. We hit the beach only briefly one day. We went to Oranjestad a couple of days and puttered around town. One day we took a jeep tour of the interior of the island that was alot of fun. Your trip is what you make of it. My goal is get some friends together and rent a house down there for a week or two and just kick back.

We like to explore and see the sites. Good meals too. I'm concerned about the exploring part because it's such a small island. It sounds encouraging though to hear you did little gambling and beach hanging and still had a good time. Of course you were on your honeymoon.

We might have to try Aruba next vacation.

bring lots of warm weather clothes....shorts, tank tops.
It has been super hot lately here, humid too.
I live on the Big Island, but Oahu is even warmer.

I don't think that we'll have enough time to go island hopping, but if we do I'll head to the big island. Why shouldn't I go barefoot on the beach? Also, I'm dark-complected (my dad has lots of native american blood in him) and I've never been burned in my entire life...do I still need to wear sunscreen, or is the sun just like it is here in MO? We will be doing lots of the things shutterfly listed, plus some others, as our trip was part of a package deal so we'll be able to do lots of free stuff. I absolutely love to take pics, so I'm sure I'll have plenty to share with you guys. I want to get on the net sometimes because my bf has to stay here.

What I meant by not going barefoot is don't do it on the sidewalk or streets. I see so many tourists walking up and down the sidewalk of Waikiki barefoot. The sand is fine.

I don't know how the sun is in MO but it can get quite hot here. Wear sunscreen especially if you take surfing lessons. You'll get a double dose of sun from above and below.

If you really need to get on the internet and you have a laptop, you could probably find some wireless hotspots around. Try Borders or Starbucks.

Alrighty, sunscreen it is. I'm bringing my laptop with me for picture transferring and internet stuff. Shutterfly, do you live in Hawaii? Are there lots of shells and stuff in the sand and ocean? Somewhere I read that it's pretty barren...which is it?
