Lol thats the LAST song on their FIRST album, and hardly indicative of their overall ability. I like it though, very silly but fun. Contains a bunch of sounds later incorporated into some of their better albums.

If you want to go off Floyd's "deep end" why not listen to:

Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict - From the album Ummagumma.

True, it is not indicative of anything except their penchant for experimental sound and stuff you wouldn't hear anywhere else, which is definitely an admirable if not unique trait.

It's on a 2-disc best-of compilation too (Echoes).

Definitely Led Zeppelin. I still have a beat up blacklight Led Zeppelin poster I bought in 1970 that will hang behind my bar if I ever get around to finishing my basement.

Again 2 completely different bands that have no place being compared with one another. This thread is useless

Even though Led Zeppelin are shameless ripoff artists, I strongly prefer their music to Pink Floyd. Not a fan of PF at all.

I love both bands but:
1. the accusation of Led Zeppelin as "shameless ripoff artists" are grossly overstated (oh noes they covered obscure delta blues musicians that people at the time had never even heard of and would never have heard of if it wasn't for LZ), and
2. Led Zeppelin is the far more influential band. They literally created blues guitar based hard rock. You see, in the late 60s, there existed this magical guitar band called the Yardbirds with guitar greats like Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page who completely reinvented rock and roll by adding delta blues influences (in England, because hardly anyone in the US even knew that delta blues existed at the time) and gave us "ROCK." And Led Zeppelin is the Yardbirds.

perhaps, but far less-so that are the Stones and well, Elvis. not much a of a Stones fan myself, but I do love some Elvis...no matter how adulterated his music is.

As for creating, the edge goes to PF- they are really unique. Nobody to this day sounds like them. Their music concept was genius.

LZ just plain rocks. Their style is far from original, but they put it together in a way nobody else did before. Painful as it is, they lose points for not starting from scratch.

Dude... slap yourself.

If LZ "put it together in a way nobody else did before", whatever 'it' refers to, then how is their 'style' not original.

It is unfair to say that PF created their music out of nothingness... PF did not start from scratch... not even close. And, IMO, many bands have somewhat successfully imitated PF's sound... Yes being one of them (mentioned in this thread).

Personally, I like zep and PF more or less equally.

Yeah, that came out poorly Was typing while on the phone. Anyway, I meant that LZ took already used material and arranged it in a completely new way. So, their original idea was given to them, but they made it their own.

Better?

Not really. You're placing unfair standards of originality onto Led Zeppelin without applying the same to Pink Floyd. Even Pink Floyd had influences and copied others. No musical style was ever created in a vacuum. No one ever "started from scratch."

Led Zeppelin.

Pink Floyd is like the Beattles to me...I can listen to about 3 or 4 songs in a row before I have to change the music. Great groups of course, but their sound is repetitive and quickly annoying.

lmao, nobody ever heard of Robert Johnson or used his material at the time, cmon, hendrix, clapton, etc. I would agree Zep had more influence overall on future bands.

Not a fair comparison. Pink Floyd was/is psychedelic progressive acid rock, LZ was hard rock, hard blues. Both kick large amounts of ass. I can listen to Animals all the way through and find it flawless, then the next day I can do the same with Physical Graffiti.

Did you even read my post? Clapton was in the Yardbirds before he was in Cream or went solo. And I said, "hardly anyone in the US." Delta Blues guitarists like BB King and Muddy Waters had to go to England in order to have successful careers. Even Hendrix, a contemporary of LZ, had to go to England to have a successful career.

Very difficult. I went with Zeppelin just because I feel that they were slightly more influential. Love both bands.
