Your example makes no sense. I'm saying he was already getting a lot of Oscar buzz for his portrayal of the Joker before he died. So it's not like his death was what got him the nomination or the win. I dont think Bale was ever in the discussion for best actor talks since he didnt really have to show that much range or emotion...

I haven't seen the Fiennes/Hoffman movies. I'd pick Ledger over Downey Jr. or Cruise.
