Left my damn bank card in the ATM and some kid withdrew from my account!

Ok smarta$$es ... ha ha ha. God got me good there. Guess i'll have to convert now to get my $100 back.

I usually use a swipe-type ATM that automatically finishes the transaction for you once you get the money. With this one I had to insert the card, got my money, got my receipt...and still no card back. I am just not used to having to stand around and wait for my card to dish out. I stood there, read my transaction receipt, and walked away. I did not even realize i left it there until hours later. Hence the no a$$-kicking.

If it lets you take it right back, there's no chance of you losing/forgetting your card, but you may neglect to finish the transaction and the next person can .

If it keeps the card, there's a chance you'll forget it at the end of the transaction, but ensures you'll remember to finish the transaction if you care about getting your card back.

So which is better ?

The models we have up here where you just swipe your card will let you check your balances all you want on one swipe, but once you have transferred/withdrawn money, it automatically ends the transaction. Not perfect because you could still just check your balance then walk away and someone could get to it before it times out, but better than some options.

Irony would dictate that the kid felt remorseful but had no idea whom to return the money to, so he puts it in the offering plate at church tomorrow.

I was going to mention this as well.

It says something like Take your Card to recieve your cash. You take the card, it gives you your cash, you take your receipt, and you're done.

I don't think it even asks if you would like to perform another transaction.

My bank (Fleet) asks you if you want to make another transaction if you make a deposit. But if you make a withdrawal it automatically gives you your card back, and continues to beep until you remove the card.

Around these parts you have to enter your PIN everytime for every single transaction, even for deposits. It's strange that your bank doesn't even have that safeguard.

This is why in the UK most if not all machines eject the card before you get the cash. Most people are so intent on thinking about the cash that if the card was ejected after, it can easily be left.
