I can write a quick greesemonkey script to hide it, but I don't have direct access to the PHP or DB to add a user option for it.

also even if you give us the option to hide it for those that like it it should "Float" so you can always see it no matter how far down a thread you scroll

Being able to disable this or have the expand/close button like the previous forum is needed. The monitor I use this on is limited to 1280X1024 resolution, and that side bar chews up 1/3rd the screen.

Having it disappear once you select a forum and show up when you are back out at the top would also be a passable work around.

ARGGGHH, it's pushing the vertical banner ad on top of the main frame in Opera

As much as I want it back, I also agree that it is wasting a lot of space in its current formatting.

EDIT: blocking dynamic2.anandtech.com gets rid of the ad, which I admit isn't very nice, but the nav bar isn't using as much space either. I suppose it figures that spacing would be messed up if the ad was in the wrong place anyway.

Now the banner ad is sitting behind the nav bar. Thats better for us, but how will AT make money on ads?

Total win. Left bar navigation was what I missed most. Excellent.

Ugh. Is there going to be an option to hide it in the near future, or are we stuck with it?

Especially with everything moving to widescreens now, it only makes sense to use more horizontal space.

What makes sense is to make the page as resolution-agnostic as possible. I would much prefer to have the sidebar gone, but I imagine I will have that option at some later point. But, for me, I don't browse with a wide screen, so it makes my browsing experience more inconvenient. (And really, we're all just complaining about inconveniences.)
